W. Whiteland Police say she altered computer to increase salary
A reported theft led officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department to the JC Penney’s store at the Exton Square Mall on Tuesday, April 29, police said. Upon arrival, an officer was advised that a store employee, Karen Sterling, 37, of Phoenixville, had accessed the store’s computer system to alter her salary three times in the month of March, receiving an additional $2,487 in pay as a result. Sterling was arraigned on charges of theft by unlawful taking and unlawful use of a computer and was released on $25,000 unsecured bail, police said.
On April 8, officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department were dispatched to the Boscov’s store at the Exton Square Mall for a reported theft, police said. A store employee advised the officer that a female had entered the store to return merchandise and used a Pennsylvania driver’s license to complete the transaction, police said. Before leaving the store, the female was observed selecting a $249 dress, which she stuck in a bag while exiting the store, police said. When confronted by the store employee, the female threatened to assault her, police said. The female suspect was later identified as Janora Carter, 28, of Camden, N.J.; police said she used the identification of a Pennsylvania woman to complete the return. An arrest warrant was issued for Carter, who is charged with forgery, identity theft, retail theft, receiving stolen property, and harassment, police said.
Officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of Canterbury Drive for an unknown disturbance on April 22, police said.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with Ryan Higgins, 29, of West Chester, who was driving in the area, police said. A patrol officer observed a plastic bag containing white powder in the cup holder of the vehicle, police said. Higgins subsequently admitted a disturbance had occurred in his residence, where officers located suspected drug paraphernalia, police said. Higgins was charged with drug violations, disorderly conduct, and driving while operating privileges are suspended, police said.
On Thursday, April 24, West Whiteland Township officers responded to the Spencer’s store at the Exton Square Mall for a theft report, police said. The officers were advised that Dorsey Grieve, 21, of West Chester, had stolen $12 worth of merchandise, police said. Grieve was charged with summary retail theft, police said.
On Saturday, April 26, an officer from the West Whiteland Township Police Department observed a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of North Pottstown Pike and Shoen Road and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Melvin Dutton III, 47, of Coatesville, exhibited signs of intoxication and was subsequently arrested for DUI and cited for traffic offenses, West Whiteland Township Police said, adding that Dutton was released on a summons.
On Saturday, April 26, West Whiteland Police officers responded to a hit-and-run crash at East Belvidere Circle and Denbigh Terrace.Officers located the striking vehicle and the operator, Alejandro Franco, 45, of West Chester. Franco was subsequently arrested for DUI and traffic offenses and released on a criminal summons, police said.
On Sunday, April 27, an officer from the West Whiteland Township Police Department observed a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of South Pottstown Pike and the U.S.30 Bypass.The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the driver, Robert Artman, 52, of Downingtown, was subsequently arrested for DUI and traffic offenses and released on a criminal summons, police said.
