West Whiteland officer reportedly alerted by man whose name was used

wwpd patchOn Sept. 1, a patrol officer from the West Whiteland Township Police Department cited a driver, who provided his name and identifying information, for traffic offenses committed on the Rt. 100 spur, police said. On March 20, a subject contacted the officer and advised him that the person cited for the traffic offenses had used his name and personal information during the traffic stop; the actual driver was identified as Omar Newell, 28, of West Chester, police said.

Newell was subsequently charged with false identification to law enforcement, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked and other traffic offenses, police said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 19, according to court records, which show that Newell has a lengthy arrest record  that includes two previous convictions for driving with a suspended license.

Patrol officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department responded to the 100 block of Apple Drive on March 20 for a report of a suspicious vehicle, police said. A responding officer located the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who was identified as Deborah Blackmon, 54, of Exton. Blackmon exhibited visible signs of intoxication and was arrested for DUI, police said.

Blackmon was charged in June with six misdemeanor theft offenses in connection with the June 7 theft of a package from the doorstep of a home in the Whiteland West Apartment Complex, according to township police, who said the investigation began when the alleged victim notified a retailer that she had not received an order. The woman contacted police after the retailer told her that not only had the merchandise been delivered, but it had also been returned for store credit, police said. After obtaining video surveillance, police said they also charged Blackmon with violating a court order not to operate a vehicle that was not equipped with an ignition interlock system. Blackmon pleaded guilty to theft in November and received two years’ probation, court records said.
