Floyd Ernest Coleman, community leader and mentor has died at age 59.
Ernie was a Lifetime member of the National Black MBA Association, (NBMBAA), Philadelphia Chapter; Past President of Families Together of Downingtown; a Board Member of the Young Men and Women in Charge Foundation, Inc., (YMWIC); a Board Member of the Cheyney University Alumni Association; Past Treasurer of the Downingtown West High School Post Prom Committee; member of the Beaver Creek Elementary PTO in Downingtown, PA; and a volunteer at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. In addition, he received recognition from State Senator Andrew E. Dinniman and the Chester County OIC for his community efforts.
Ernie was a graduate from Howard High School, in Wilmington, DE. He was part of the Howard High School Basketball team that won a National Championship in 1973. The team ended the season with 24 wins, and 0 losses; becoming the first boys’ basketball team in the state-tournament era to finish undefeated.
Ernie earned a BS degree in Accounting from Cheyney University (PA), then earned a MBA in Corporate Finance from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Ernie was President of the May 1978 class at Cheyney, and an Honor student.
Ernie was a Business Professional with many years of Finance experience in the Aerospace industry. Early in his career, he held Finance positions nationwide at Ford Aerospace locations in Willow Grove, PA; Houston, TX; Detroit, MI; Hanover, MD; and New Holland, PA. He then worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation, in King of Prussia, PA for 24 years.
The community leader died Wednesday, May 11, 2016 after battling Leukemia. He leaves his wife Linda of 32 years of marriage, three children Nomble, Idris & Adanne.
Funeral services will be held at New Life in Christ Fellowship in Coatesville on Sunday, May 22, 2016. He will be laid to rest Monday morning at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pa.
