PoliceTapeCOATESVILLE – A city man was stabbed to death in the early morning hours Wednesday on East Diamond Street and another city man faces murder charges after a dispute turned violent.

Police said that Grayling Chambless, 55, was found dead of an apparent stab wound on the 300 block of East Diamond Street. Andre Smith, 35, police said, was discovered in the immediate area with a broken ankle, reportedly from jumping out of a second story window.

Police said that Chambless went to Smith’s residence and there was some sort of dispute between the two, leading to, police said, Chambless’ stabbing. Smith then fled inside his house, as police responded to the scene just minutes after the alleged stabbing took place. In an apparent attempt to escape, police said, Chambless jumped from a second story window and suffered a broken right lower leg.

Chambless succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was transported to Paoli Hospital for treatment.

Smith faces charges of first degree murder and was arraigned by district justice Grover Koon and remanded to Chester County Prison without bail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anybody with information should contact Detective Kevin Campbell of the Coatesville Police Department at 610-384-2300 or Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.
