IMG_2338West Caln Township Police are seeking the public’s help to locate the pickup truck driver who collided with a horse and buggy – causing fatal injuries to the animal – and fled the scene.

Police Chief Curt A. Martinez said the crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, in the area of West Kings Highway and Ash Road. He said the buggy was traveling eastbound, and the truck westbound on the highway when the truck’s driver lost control and slid into the oncoming vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers found the buggy’s driver, its only occupant, with minor injuries and the horse dead.  The buggy’s driver declined any medical treatment, Martinez said, describing him as “banged up a little” and quite distraught over the loss of the horse.

The driver of the white four-door Toyota truck, possibly a Tundra, exited his vehicle to check the scene, then returned to his truck and drove south on Ash Road toward Airport Road without rendering any assistance, Martinez said. “Obviously he knew what he did and showed a complete disregard for everyone’s safety,” the chief said. “He wanted to leave before police arrived.”

Martinez said the truck may have had a blue stripe on the tailgate and should have damage on the driver’s side. The truck’s driver was described as a white male approximately 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds.

The crash remains under investigation by the West Caln Township Police Department. Anyone who witnessed the accident or may have information is urged to contact Chief Martinez at the West Caln Township Police Department:  610-384-3115.
