The Mushroom Festival is pleased to announce that the winner of this year’s Amateur Mushroom Cook-Off will win a Golden Ticket to compete in the World Food Championships. Our Amateur Mushroom Cook-Off is officially a Preferred Qualifier event of the World Food Championship in the Recipe (Breakfast) category.
The Mushroom Festival’s Golden Ticket winner will have all registration fees paid and receive $1000 in travel expenses to attend the World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Alabama on November 8 to 15, 2016. At the World Food Championship, competition is fierce with $300,000 in cash and additional prizes awarded, including the grand prize of $100,000.
“More than 400 pre-qualified competitors will enter one of nine competition categories beginning Nov. 8, and the champion of the 31st Annual Mushroom Festival’s Amateur Mushroom Cook-off will be among them,” said Mike McCloud, CEO of the World Food Championships.
The theme for this year’s Amateur Mushroom Cook-Off is Breakfast! Do you make a great mushroom omelet or maybe a mushroom pancake? The challenge is to create a breakfast dish featuring the mushrooms that are commercially grown in Kennett Square, such as button, crimini, portabella, oyster, maitake, and/or shiitake.
From all the entries submitted, six finalists will be selected to prepare their recipes in the Mushroom Festival’s Special Events Tent on Saturday, September 10 at 10:30 am. The First Place winner will receive the Golden Ticket to the World Food Championship as the prize.
