DOWNINGTOWN — The initial phase of the revitalization of the borough’s Armor Alley Pocket Plaza has been completed through the efforts of the Downingtown Main Street Association and borough government.
“The association has completed its goals of having the initial installation of fencing at the Armor Alley Pocket Plaza done by the end of the year,” said Adrian Martinez, president of DMSA.
The next phase of the project will take place in the spring with pavement replacement and landscaping.
The Armor Alley Pocket Plaza is proposed to be redeveloped into a lively, well lit, beautifully landscaped public plaza at a key spot on Main Street. A canopy of white lights will define the plaza and new landscaping, fencing, walkway lighting and pavers will create an attractive and safe pedestrian link to Main Street from Mill Road.
DMSA board member Jeff Thomas said the plaza is being planned to be utilized during the 2015 summer events. “Our initial event early this year was successful,” Thomas said.
DMSA is looking for public support and all donations are tax deductible. “We have a number of sponsorship opportunities available,” DMSA board member Sarah Peck said. “Already business leaders and individuals have donated money but we need thousands more to complete this wonderful project.”

“The park will be used for open air community events,” Martinez said. “The plaza will promote commerce and investment in existing businesses. We are happy to partner with borough government in this endeavor. The borough is also working on building a sidewalk extension to promote a mid-block crossing on East Lancaster Avenue directly across from the new parking lot. We thank everyone that is involved with this project.”
