The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) proudly extends gratitude to its community partners, with a special spotlight on Kimberton Whole Foods, the organization’s longstanding ally in fostering career readiness for Discover students. Discover is designed to integrate classroom and pre-vocational instruction with on-the-job training, serving students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) between the ages of 16 and 22, to prepare them for success in the workplace and for independent living. This recognition underscores the shared commitment to fostering inclusive environments that value the unique contributions of every individual. Kimberton Whole Foods has been an invaluable partner for over 15 years. This enduring partnership has played a pivotal role in providing Discover students with transformative vocational experiences and essential work readiness skills.

Discover students have actively engaged in vocational experiences at Kimberton Whole Foods, notably at the Commissary Kitchen, where they have contributed as utility workers. This hands-on experience has not only enhanced their technical skills but has also been instrumental in developing their work ethic and professionalism. Additionally, Kimberton Whole Foods has hired Discover students after graduating.
Kimberton Whole Foods’ inclusive approach demonstrates their commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for students to explore and learn about various career paths. When asked how the partnership aligns with the values of Kimberton Whole Foods, Gregg Buchanan, Commissary Manager, shared “It’s about community. Everybody brings something to contribute. Whether it’s their first time doing something or not, regardless of whatever task we throw their way, we believe everyone has something to offer.”
“We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of Kimberton Whole Foods,” stated Lisa Abate, Community Instruction Coordinator at the CCIU. “We believe in empowering our Discover students not only with vocational skills but also with the independence to navigate the world around them. The partnership with Kimberton Whole Foods has been instrumental in achieving this goal, providing real-world experiences that enhance the students’ capabilities and confidence.”
