YMCA Pickleball Center at Downingtown, operated by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW), opened its doors earlier this month. The brand-new facility featuring nine indoor courts is already making history as the first YMCA facility in the country devoted to pickleball.
“We are thrilled to bring this type of facility – and a piece of YMCA history – to Chester County residents,” shares Jackie Canan, Senior Director of Pickleball for YGBW. “We’ve seen incredible demand for open play time across our branches over the past two years.”
Prior to the opening of Pickleball Center, YGBW operated 42 pickleball courts at seven branches across Chester County. The opening of Pickleball Center brings their court tally to over 50.
“The YMCA has become the home for pickleball in Chester County,” continues Canan. “With more than 50 courts and counting, we’re excited to welcome more players to this fun and engaging sport.”
To celebrate the opening of this new facility, the YMCA is offering a number of free introductory pickleball clinics through July 31 at Pickleball Center at Downingtown. The clinics are free for members and non-members, alike.
“If you are at all curious about the sport of pickleball, now is the time to give it a try,” comments Shawn Ganow, Director of YMCA Pickleball Center at Downingtown. “I love introducing people to the sport – and to the pickleball community. With pickleball, you have countless new friends the instant you step onto the court,” continues Ganow. “I hope to meet many new players this month on the courts of Pickleball Center.”
