At its March public meeting, the Downingtown Borough Council voted unanimously to hire Jeffrey A. Smith as Downingtown’s new Borough Manager.
Smith, currently Assistant Township Manager in Lower Merion, had served as Borough Manager in Media Borough, Delaware County for twenty years, 2000 -2020. He also served as a Senior Manager in Sarasota County Florida.
“Jeff Smith brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Borough of Downingtown. I look forward to working closely with Jeff as our town turns the page on a new chapter,” said Alex Rakoff, Borough Council President.
Smith replaces long-time Borough Manager Steve Sullins who left the Borough in December.
Jeff began his municipal management career in Downingtown as Assistant Borough Manager before moving on to Media Borough. He also served as an Adjunct Instructor at Widener University teaching government and public administration.
“I am very pleased to welcome Jeff as our new Borough Manager. Downingtown is facing some serious challenges, but I am confident that Jeff is up to the task. Change is inevitable, but it is also an opportunity to take things in a new direction. I’m sure that Jeff’s sleeves are rolled up and he is ready to hit the ground running!” said Mayor Phil Dague.
Smith has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics, and a Master of Public Administration from Widener University.
“I would like to thank Borough Council for affording me the opportunity to serve as Borough Manager. I look forward to working collaboratively with Mayor Dague, Borough Council, staff and the community to build on the past success and help guide the future of Downingtown”, said Jeff Smith.
Smith starts on March 20.
