The 10th Annual Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference is organized by the Chester County Community Collaborative and will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Providence Church/Westside Community Center at 430 Hannum Avenue in downtown West Chester. Attendees can choose to attend the morning session from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or the afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch between both sessions.
“We know that accessibility is key for our busy single moms, so we’re celebrating our 10th anniversary by offering the option to pack a full day’s worth of education and empowerment into shorter, half-day sessions at a location with easy access to parking and public transportation,” said Conference Co-Chairs Guillermina Rios and Briana Villagrana. “We welcome all single mothers: divorced, widowed, grandmothers raising grandchildren and single by choice. We want to be sure all single mothers feel welcome, empowered and connected to other amazing single mothers in our community.”
The 10th Annual Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference provides workshops for moms in a spacious auditorium with exhibitor and vendor tables spread throughout the two-story venue and outdoor activities for children. Kim Andrews, Executive Director of the Fund for Women and Girls, will open the conference as the featured guest speaker. Each workshop series kicks off with a presentation on Financial Literacy, hosted by Benchmark Federal Credit Union, with an option to register for a personal session to review individual credit reports. Additional workshops include professional wardrobe tips and shopping on a budget with Wings for Success; understanding sexual harassment and assault with the Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County; nutritional insights and diabetes guidance from Penn Medicine; home buying and parenting workshops, with Luis Benitez, presented in Spanish.
In addition, the Belinda R. Harrison Award will be presented, honoring a working single mom who has overcome adversity and is active in her community. Harrison was a single mother who worked tirelessly for years in Chester County’s social services and in her community, dedicating her life to empowering women and the underserved.
“This year’s theme is ‘Honor the Past, Treasure the Present, Shape the Future.’ We’d love to honor an outstanding mother in our community, doing great things in the present, who will surely help shape the future,” said Rebecca Worthington, Benchmark Federal Credit Union’s Vice President of Marketing.
