DOWNINGTOWN – The Borough Council voted to restrict recreational dirt bike and ATV usage between the hours of 9pm and 7am at their meeting Wednesday night.
Police Chief James R. McGowan said that the ordinance further restricts where and when those vehicles can be used and increases fines for illegal usage.
Council President Anthony Gazzerro clarified that the motion passed on Wednesday is just a refinement of the existing ordinance.
“We’re not going out witch hunting,” he said. “It’s just we have some ongoing incidents.”
Properly registered dirt bikes and ATVs will still be allowed on the road as a form of transportation during those times.
Council also passed a motion for the advertisement of positions on the historical as well as the parks and recreation commissions. Though councilperson Ann Feldman said that she wanted the ordinance to allow for 3-9 people on the parks and recreation commission, Wednesday night placed the numbers at three historical commission members and five parks and recreation members.
