CALN – The Chester County Solid Waste Authority collected hazardous waste and old computers in the parking lot of the Coatesville Area 9/10 Center on Friday.
Around 770 cars showed up to get rid of electronics, solvents, oil based paint, and chemicals.
“It needs to be disposed of properly so it doesn’t get into the water system,” said Chester County Solid Waste Authority Administrative Assistant Irene Perry, also pointing out that much of the material brought on Saturday would have been illegal to dispose of with regular trash.
The event was one of five being held across the county throughout the year. Other disposal events will be held on September 6 in Landenburg and October 11 in West Chester.
In addition to the disposal teams, volunteers and community service participants helped with the event to total over 60 people working on the day.
