Police say West Bradford resident, 63, charged with animal cruelty
A 63-year-old West Bradford Township man who allegedly disliked a woman’s pet rooster decided to take matters into his own hands when she declined to remove it from her property in the 1300 block of Cresmont Drive, said state police from the Embreeville barracks. Police said Telford E. Blevins grabbed his metal baseball bat and gave the rooster’s head a fatal blow on Friday, May 9, about 8 a.m.; he has been charged with cruelty to animals. Police said Blevins said “the rooster’s timing was off, and it begins to crow at 3:30 a.m.”
Nine vehicle owners were victimized in West Bradford Township sometime between 5 p.m. on Monday, May 5 and 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, state police from the Embreeville barracks said. Police said someone broke into the vehicles in the 1300 block of Crabapple Lane, 900 block of Winesap Way, 900 block of Delicious Drive, and 1300 block of Stayman Drive and stole numerous items. Police said someone broke into two unlocked vehicles in the 2200 block of Cranberry Lane sometime between midnight on Friday, May 2, and 10 a.m. on Monday, May 5.
On Tuesday, May 13, at 10:58 p.m., troopers from the Embreeville barracks responded to a one-vehicle crash on westbound U.S. 30 at Rt. 340 in Caln Township. Police said Jeremy C. Wood, 37, of Thorndale, left the left lane and struck the concrete dividing barrier; he was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured police said, adding that he was citing for leaving the roadway.
On Monday, May 5, at 1:19 p.m., a hit-and-run crash occurred on the westbound Rt. 30 Bypass, east of Reeceville Road, in East Caln Township, state police from the Embreeville barracks said. A red sports car attempted to merge into the left lane, struck a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, causing minor damage, and left the scene, police said.
A Downingtown man was cited for driving too fast for conditions on the westbound U.S. 30 Bypass in East Caln Township on April 30 at 11:39 a.m., state police from the Embreeville barracks said. Robert F. Flannery, 67, was traveling in the left lane and lost control of his 2007 Honda Accord after hitting a large puddle, police said. The Accord struck the concrete media and spun 360 degrees, police said. Flannery, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained a minor laceration on his arm and redness on his head but declined medical treatment.
Coatesville Police were dispatched to the area of 12th Avenue and Oak Street on Sunday, May 11, at 11:02 p.m. for a call that two males were peering into cars, Officer Miguel Ortiz reported. Responding officers made contact with Cory Baker, 22, and Edward Ross, 18, both of Downingtown, in the 1000 block of Oak Street, police said. The pair was found to be in possession of a Dell laptop computer, U.S. currency, wallets, and various forms of identification belonging to other people, police said. Both were taken into custody and transported to the station, police said.
Further investigation revealed that Baker and Ross gained entry into unlocked vehicles in Caln Township, police said. Caln Police were notified of the incident and are investigating, Coatesville Police said. Baker and Ross were charged with receiving stolen property and conspiracy, and both were taken to Chester County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $5,000 bail, court records said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, records said.
Troopers from the Embreeville barracks responded to a one-vehicle crash on the eastbound U.S. 30 Bypass on Saturday, May 10, at 5:45 a.m., state police said. After investigation, the driver, Dashawn L. London, 24, of Downingtown, was taken into custody for suspected drunk-driving, state police said.
