Police: One shoplifting arrest begets another

Detectives say couple who stole at one Giant linked to second theft  

Image 2On Friday, April 25, an officer from the West Whiteland Township Police Department responded to the Giant supermarket for a report of a theft, police said. The store’s loss prevention officer advised that a couple had stolen $165 worth of detergent on April 21, a theft captured on surveillance video, police said. An investigation determined that the same two subjects were responsible for a $365 theft of medication from the Giant  in Thorndale on April 12, police said.The subjects were later identified as Deangelo Hatton, 50, and his wife, Andrea Johnson-Hatton, 27, both of Coatesville, police said. They were charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy, police said.

On Thursday, May 1, officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department were dispatched to the Boscov’s store at the Exton Square Mall for a reported theft, police said.Upon arrival, officers were advised that Anzhelika Fogle, 36, of Downingtown, had stolen $132 worth of merchandise from the store, police said.Fogle was charged with a summary count of retail theft, police said.

The report of a screaming, intoxicated person led officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department to the Exton train station on Thursday, May 1, police said. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Anthony Shehee, 54, of Philadelphia, who was cited for public drunkenness, police said.

On Friday, May 2, officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department received a report of a possible intoxicated driver on the Route 100 Spur and made contact with Jeffrey Genda, 42, of Exton, after a traffic stop, police said. Genda was arrested for suspected DUI and released to a relative on a criminal summons, police said.

On Sunday, May 4, an officer from the West Whiteland Township Police Department conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle travel through a red traffic signal on East Lincoln Highway at Iron Lake Boulevard, police said. After making contact with the driver, Caitlin Ennis, 33, Chester Springs, police said they arrested her for suspected drunk-driving; she was released to a relative on a criminal summons.

On Wednesday, May 7, an officer from the West Whiteland Township Police Department observed a vehicle strike a curb on Rt. 100 at Bartlett Avenue, police said. A traffic stop was initiated, and police said they made contact with the driver, Sean Kelly, 23, of West Chester, who was arrested for DUI and was released to a friend on a criminal summons, police said.

Joseph Ciardelli, 18, of Coatesville; Blair Cordell Wilkins Jr.,19, of Downingtown; and Bryan Anthony McClintock, 19, of Coatesville, were all arrested for possession of marijuana in the parking lot of the Wawa in the 100 block of Boot Road between 11:30 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, April 29, Downingtown Borough Police said. An officer conducted a traffic stop for several violations that included an inoperable brake light, failure to stop at a stop sign, and driving over the double yellow lines, police said.  Ciardelli also has been charged with multiple traffic violations, police said.  Upon stopping the vehicle, Downingtown officers were able to see the marijuana in plain view along with several items of drug paraphernalia, police said, adding that all three confessed when brought to the station for processing.

On Friday, May 2, a Downingtown officer responded to the unit block of  Gable Avenue for a report of graffiti spray-painted on the building within the last 24 hours, police said. Mail boxes, the north and west side of the building, as well as interior walls throughout the complex were painted, said police, who are continuing to investigate.

Manual Rodriguez, 23, of Downingtown, was the subject of a traffic stop in the 200 block of East Lancaster Avenue just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, Downingtown Police said.  Rodriguez was cited for the borough’s noise ordinance because the vehicle he was driving had music playing so loud that it could be heard from a distance greater than 50 feet, police said.  During the stop, Rodriguez was also cited for being an unlicensed driver, police said.

Laurant Cocaj, 20, of Downingtown, and Brent Alfred Robinson, 21, of Lionville, were cited for disorderly conduct following a fight after 7 p.m. on Monday, May 5, in the area of Sunnybrook Park and then again in the area of North Lake Drive and Sunset Drive, Downingtown Police said.  When officers arrived, the fight had ended; however, Cocaj and Robinson began cursing and acting out again, police said.  When officers pulled them apart, Robinson continued being uncooperative and was taken into custody and cited, police said. Cocaj’s citation was mailed, police said.

Matthew Donald Chandler, 35, of Downingtown, was taken into custody for public drunkenness at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5, in the 100 block of East Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown Police said.  Officers observed Chandler leaving Chelsy’s, staggering and having so much difficulty walking that he had to use a wall to maintain his balance, police said.  Chandler was taken into custody, cited, and held until sober, police said.
