Landis Kent ‘Kenny’ Eshleman

Landis Kent “Kenny” Eshleman, 74, of Ephrata, PA, passed away on January 30, 2016 at his home in Ephrata.

Kenny was born in Lancaster, PA, to the late Landis H. Eshleman and the late Florence (Simmons) Kreitz, on January 26, 1942. Kenny was a graduate of S. Horace Scott Senior High School in Coatesville, PA. During his years there he was an avid member of the model making club, a hobby that lasted his entire life.

Kenny was a craftsman and worked as a machine operator in the production department of FMC/American Viscous/Cyklop Corporation in Downingtown for more than 40 years. He retired in 2003.

He was a six year veteran of the U. S. Army infantry where he was both a qualified sharpshooter and rifleman and, after a cook’s training course, served as a cook, stateside, during the Vietnam War.

Kenny’s dad, Landis, loved boating but Kenny was prone to seasickness, so he made radio-controlled model boats and sailed them at the marina and on Speedwell Forge Lake. He was looking forward to the lake at Speedwell being refilled after its forced drainage.

Kenny’s craftsmanship extended to repairing and restoring almost anything but especially Lionel trains. He was a dedicated model builder (usually from scratch) and sometimes said that he worked so that he could afford to pursue his hobby.

He also built radio controlled airplanes and intricate ship models.

Kenny identified himself as a Christian and though he had no specific church affiliation he was a devoted student of the Bible and quoted it frequently.

He is remembered for his patience and sense of humor. Though he was not a joker he could find enough humor in everyday things to even make himself laugh.

Kenny is survived by one son, Kevin Matthew Eshleman and his wife Christina Carlisa (Williams) Eshleman of Ephrata. A grandson Esaiah Landis Eshleman also of Ephrata and one brother Lynn H. Eshleman and his wife Shirley of Emmaus, PA. In addition to nephews, nieces and cousins.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday February 17th, 2016 at Gravenor Home For Funerals 100 West Main Street, Ephrata, PA. A memorial service will be held at 8:00 p.m. following the visitation time.
