The deadline to register to vote in this election is Tuesday, Oct. 11.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Borough Mayor Carolyn Comitta \u2014 who is on the ballot for State Representative herself this November \u2014 presented Holton with the Key to the Borough and thanked her for her work with children over the years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Holton stressed the need to get voters registered \u2014 suggesting sending would-be voters to <a href=\"http:\/\/IWillVote.com\"><span class=\"s2\">IWillVote.com<\/span><\/a> to get registered \u2014 and then to get them out to vote on election day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhen people participate, it\u2019s good for democracy,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen Democrats turn out, Democrats win, it\u2019s just that simple.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Holton \u2014 daughter of a former Republican Governor of Virginia and who was serving as the commonwealth\u2019s Secretary of Education until Kaine (a U.S. Senator and former Virginia Governor) was tapped as Clinton\u2019s running mate \u2014 said she\u2019s gotten to learn a lot about who Clinton is as a person on the campaign trail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHillary is the consummate listener,\u201d Holton said of the presidential nominee. \u201cShe loves nothing better than talking to voters, to people everywhere sharing their concerns, their issues, what\u2019s working in their world, what\u2019s not. I watched her cross examine the bus driver one day on the bus tour we did across the state, during a break and she saw the bus driver talking to her children on Facebook back in Georgia, and Hillary starts asking her about \u2018how do you do the work\/family balance? And what\u2019s working and what sort of sick leave policy do you have?\u2019 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;Hillary loves people, loves connecting with people and people love hearing their stories and loves connecting those issues to policies and programs that we, collectively can do to help each other through good government.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Holton said her husband is aware of the historical nature of Clinton\u2019s candidacy \u2014 as<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>the first woman to be her party\u2019s nominee for president \u2014 but that he, too, has a historic role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cTim is so excited about the historic opportunity he has in this race,\u201d She said. \u201cWe\u2019re hearing a lot of history at the top, and we are going to make history at the top, but what about the opportunity to have a strong man in a supportive role to a strong woman, as our first president?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Holton urged supporters to get to work, noting that the race is likely to be very close, even though she argued it shouldn\u2019t be, based on the quality of the two candidates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cMy husband \u2014 he\u2019s my best political advisor, he told me a year ago that this is going to be a close race,\u201d she said. \u201cHe said we have the best candidate \u2014 head and shoulders \u2014 before we even knew who their candidate would be. We have somebody who\u2019s got the strength and the judgment and the experience.
