Becky Corbin (R-155) Tuesday\u00a0announced the<b> <\/b>Department of Community and Economic Development has approved a grant through the Industrial Sites Reuse Program (ISRP) to support Petra Community Housing in performing an environmental assessment in Phoenixville.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Petra Community Housing has received approval for a $46,125 Industrial Sites Reuse Program (ISRP) grant for a Phase II environmental assessment to assess contamination of a vacant brownfield site, located at 730 Wheatland St. in Phoenixville.\u00a0 The site was home to a former grinding wheel operation and steel discarding facility.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAs a legislative task force co-chair last year reviewing how state government can best empower nonprofit agencies to serve those in need, I am very pleased to see funding approved for this important project,\u201d said Corbin.\u00a0 \u201cThis is an excellent example of how the public and private sectors can work together to help our state\u2019s most vulnerable citizens realize their dream of living in safe and affordable housing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Once the area is assessed and cleaned, Petra Community Housing, a nonprofit that creates affordable housing for seniors, families, and individuals with disabilities, plans to construct 48 townhouse rentals. The townhouses will be rented to families, seniors and special needs individuals, as well as veterans struggling with homelessness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Additionally, Petra intends to construct a new 36,000-square-foot multi-services building to enable various service providers to assist community members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Administered by DCED, the Industrial Sites Reuse Program provides grants and low-interest loans for environmental assessments and remediation.
