If guys can let themselves go a bit, why not women?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"KellyColumn415Revised\"<\/a>Have you heard about \u201cDad bod\u201d? Thanks to Clemson student Mackenzie Pearson\u2019s blog post\u00a0(read here: http:\/\/bit.ly\/1DCrYSl<\/a>) the concept is trending. Here\u2019s her theory in a nutshell: Women\u00a0are attracted to men that have a \u201cnice balance between a beer gut and working out.<\/p>\n

The dad\u00a0bod says, “I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy\u00a0eating eight slices of pizza at a time.”<\/p>\n

It’s not an overweight guy, but it isn’t one with washboard\u00a0abs, either.<\/p>\n

Mackenzie argues that dating a less than perfect man is the key to a successful\u00a0relationship. No girl wants to date a dude prettier than she is. I get it.<\/p>\n

HOWEVER, there is\u00a0something supremely irritating about the fact that the reciprocal \u201cMom Bod\u201d would NEVER\u00a0garner the same respect. Oh, as women, we tell each other ALL THE TIME how our stretch\u00a0marks are the \u201cbattle scars\u201d of having children. Of course we should celebrate and cherish the\u00a0loose skin and sagging breasts that exemplify our motherhood…what\u2019s not to love?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s bad enough that men, as they age, can get grey and wrinkled and it is described as\u00a0\u201cdistinguished\u201d but now they can get fat and it is OK?<\/p>\n

Ladies, I\u2019m calling for an uprising. Can you image the time, money and energy that could be\u00a0saved if we let ourselves go? No more SPANX, hours in a beauty salon, Botox injections,\u00a0endless miles on the treadmill, waxing, plucking, buffing and selftanning…<\/p>\n

it\u2019s mindblowing. I\u2019m\u00a0pretty sure I could cure cancer and secure world peace in a little under a week. Nevermind that\u00a0the beauty, movie, television and print media industries would fold like a house of cards. Millions\u00a0of dollars are generated every day convincing maturing women that they aren\u2019t attractive\u00a0enough. The financial fallout of embracing \u201cnatural beauty\u201d would be catastrophic.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m fairly confident that if I polled 100 college aged males and showed them pictures of \u201cMom\u00a0Bods,\u201d they would be horrified. After all, it\u2019s nothing like the images they have been promised via\u00a0social media. Unfortunately, real life doesn\u2019t come with an Instagram filter, fellas.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not holding my breath that things will change anytime soon…so, until this idea takes root, I\u2019ll\u00a0be out running three miles after applying mascara and lipgloss\u2026.<\/p>\n
