She\u2019s currently working on her Cosmetologist Teacher\u2019s license; and is also an officer of the student organization SKILLS USA.<\/p>\n<p><em>The long gray line<\/em>&#8230;<strong>Kennett High\u2019s senior Hannah Shiflet<\/strong> is heading to the <strong>US Military Academy at West Point<\/strong>. Cadet Shiflet will play lacrosse, plans to major in engineering and embrace duty, honor, and service to country.\u00a0 Congratulations and thank you Hannah!<\/p>\n<p><em>INTELligent<\/em><strong> &#8230;<\/strong><strong>Unionville High\u2019s Shashwat Kishore<\/strong> competed in the <strong>Intel Science Talent Search<\/strong>, the nation\u2019s most prestigious pre-college science and math competition. Shashwat won the 3rd Place Medal of Distinction &#8211; Basic Research. Shashwat\u2019s project focused on representing abstract algebras using matrices; he developed a new relationship between these matrices and topology; Shashwat was awarded a $35K scholarship.\u00a0 <strong>Delaware Valley Science Council Awarded UHS\u2019 Jeff Phillips<\/strong> (math &amp; chemistry), <strong>winner of the Harold F. Bernhardt Memorial Award<\/strong> ($900), presented by the <strong>Delaware Valley Science Council<\/strong>, and<strong> Shashwat<\/strong> (math &amp; physics), <strong>winner of an Excellence in Science Award<\/strong> ($450), presented by the <strong>American Society of Mechanical Engineers<\/strong>, Greater Trenton Section.\u00a0 Well done Shashwat &amp; Jeff!<\/p>\n<p><em>Final Answer, please<\/em>&#8230;<strong>West Chester East\u2019s \u2018Quiz Bowl\u2019 teams A &amp; B take 1<sup>st<\/sup> &amp; 2<sup>nd<\/sup> place in Conestoga Valley Quiz Bowl.<\/strong> Questions span a range of topics, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture&#8230;we&#8217;re giving these hard-working &#8216;smarties&#8217; a shout out!<\/p>\n<p><em>Most Generous<\/em>&#8230;<strong>M &amp; T Bank<\/strong> presented a <strong>$75,000 check to\u00a0YMCA of Greater Brandywine.<\/strong> The funds will be used to support several YMCA initiatives including <strong>Girls on the Run<\/strong> and <strong>Stride for Boys<\/strong>. \u00a0M &amp; T Bank will also be the <strong>Presenting Sponsor for the Y\u2019s annual Corporate Cup Golf Challenge<\/strong>, which provides financial assistance to enable seventh grade students to receive a free Y membership&#8230;Wow.<\/p>\n<p><em>Drop it like it\u2019s hot&#8230;.(off the griddle, that is!)<\/em>&#8230;<strong>Unionville High\u2019s boys\u2019 lacrosse team<\/strong> is hosting a\u00a0<strong>Flapjack Fundraiser, 8-10 AM, THIS Sunday, March 22nd<\/strong> at the Applebee&#8217;s in Kennett Square. The breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Tickets are $7 and are available at the door.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Hop&#8221; to it!<\/em>&#8230;<strong>Coatesville Area Public Library<\/strong>\u00a0is hosting a <strong>FREE Easter Party\/Whacky Outift Day,\u00a0April 4th 12:30 &#8211; 2:30<\/strong> for kids ages 5-14 in its Community Room. \u00a0A parent or guardian must accompany children attending the event.<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s a bird&#8230;it\u2019s a plane, NO, it\u2019s \u2018S.D.\u2019 to the Rescue!<\/em>&#8230; Spotted &#8211; <strong>Chadds Ford Elementary Principal, Shawn Dutkiewicz<\/strong> (&#8216;S.D.&#8217;), stopping\u00a0 to change a colleague\u2019s tire&#8230;Shawn&#8217;s never\u00a0too &#8216;tired&#8217; (<em>nyuk-nyuk!<\/em>) to help someone in need&#8230;nicely done Shawn!<\/p>\n<p><em>Kind kids<\/em>&#8230;<strong>Penns Grove Middle School<\/strong> participated in a campaign called \u201cThink Kindness\u201d and were challenged to <strong>\u201cchange the world in 15 days\u201d \u00a0by setting a goal of 5,000 acts of kindness and collecting 1,000 pairs of shoes.<\/strong>..the shoes will be donated to those in need in local communities and to an orphanage in Africa.<\/p>\n<p><em>Honors<\/em>&#8230;Congratulations to <strong>Longwood Rotary\u2019s Student of the Quarter \u2013 Unionville High\u2019s Samantha &#8220;Sami&#8221; Seidenberg<\/strong>&#8230;Sami&#8217;s extensive leadership and involvement list is most impressive&#8230;way to go Sami!<\/p>\n<p><em>Doing back flips<\/em>&#8230;<strong>KMC Gymnastics boys\u2019 team wins PA State Gymnastics Championships.<\/strong> \u00a0<strong>Kyle Walchuk<\/strong> and <strong>Sean Salisbury<\/strong> earned \u2018all-around\u2019 state champions; <strong>Collin Cunane, Kieran Clark, Liam Bachman, TJ, Langdon, Henry Wagner, Max Madron, Spencer Biggs, Zachary Secord, Spencer Lewis<\/strong>, and <strong>Oliver March<\/strong> were individual event state champions. Level 8 and\u00a010 teams won the first place trophy; level 4 team placed second. More than 350 boys from 22 gyms across the entire state of PA competed &#8230;<em>SHAZAM<\/em> KMC!<\/p>\n<p><em>Guys and gals<\/em>&#8230;<strong>Salesianum<\/strong> students, \u00a0along with help from sister schools, <strong>Padua &amp; Ursuline Academies<\/strong>, <strong>have raised $71,000<\/strong> this spring for the <strong>Delaware Center for Homeless Veterans (DCHV)<\/strong>, beneficiaries of SALSthon 2015. Now in its third year, <strong>SALSthon stands for Students About Life Saving<\/strong>.
