Shaw was the first on scene.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Township police said when Shaw arrived at the home, already clearing burning, \u00a0he saw an elderly woman inside the home looking out the front door.<\/p>\n<p>Shaw jumped out of his car and moved quickly toward the front door, but Mitchell retreated further into the house. Shaw, knowing she was moving deeper into a burning building, entered the house himself. He managed to find her in the living room, already filled with smoke and fire.<\/p>\n<p>He pulled her out of the house to safety and was able to confirm that there were no other people in the house.<\/p>\n<p>Fire and emergency services crews from Thorndale, Downingtown, Minquas, Alert, East Brandywine, and Lionville needed about a half hour to bring the fire under control.<\/p>\n<p>This matter is under investigation by the Caln Township Police Department Criminal Investigation Division.\u00a0 The Chester County Fire Marshal\u2019s Office, along with a Fire Marshal from the Pennsylvania State Police, are working to determine the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Township Fire Marshal Ray Stackhouse and a Chester County Sheriff\u2019s Office K-9 unit assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CALN \u2014 A township police officer rushed into a burning home Tuesday and saved a 93-year-old woman from the flames.
