The weather is warm (or hot), school is almost done for the year and municipal and private pools are open.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This means that it\u2019s time for outdoor music events. One of the area\u2019s best outdoor music fests is free and happening this weekend.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Turk\u2019s Head Music Festival in West Chester (Everhart Park, Bradford Avenue and Everhart Street, West Chester, <a href=\"http:\/\/turksheadfestival.com\/\">turksheadfestival.com<\/a>) just keeps rocking on year-after-year \u2014 and just keeps getting better.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This year, the annual Turks\u00a0Head\u00a0Music Festival will be held on June 8 from noon-7 p.m. in the park at the west end of West Chester.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The all-day festival, which is one of the most popular and longest-running annual mid-summer events in Chester County, has a diverse line-up of eight musical acts.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The annual music-oriented party is presented by West Chester Recreation. It is a free event that appeals to the entire family with a wide range of live music as well as a variety of other activities geared to all ages.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The line-up for 2025 features Blues Reincarnation Project, Joe Kenney Band, Dead Friends, Cordelia Blue, Stone Throwers, Untethered, and Wild Bill &amp; the Bruisers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors to Everhart Park this Sunday are welcome to bring picnic lunches and are advised to bring lawn blankets or folding chairs. The festival will also feature a wide array of food concessions with hot food and cool beverages.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other popular annual features at the Turk\u2019s Head Music Festival include kids\u2019 play area and an arts-and-crafts show featuring more than 70 talented artisans who will be demonstrating and selling their crafts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Rain Date is June 15.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One of the festivals features music and food as primary attractions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20611 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/downingtowntimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/chesco-blues-bbq-180x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"300\" \/>The 2025 Chester County Blues Barbecue will be held on June 7 at Wyndsor Farm (2550 Ridge Road, Elverson, <a id=\"OWA22ab06c3-9838-6a34-6475-95780436151d\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chestercountyblues.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.chestercountyblues.com<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 14th annual staging of the event, which is sponsored by the Coventry Lions Club, is slated to run from 2-7 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festival features four headline blues acts with the following schedule \u2013 1 p.m., Dave Mell Blues Band; 2 p.m., Voodoo DeVille; 3:45 p.m., Lonnie Shields and 5:30 p.m., Gary Allegretto.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Food, refreshments, and beer will be available for purchase from vendors on site. Admission ticket does not include food and beverage.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Blues Barbecue will be held June 7\u00a0&#8212; rain or shine. There will also be a variety of family-oriented activities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The long list of special activities includes presentations by many of the event\u2019s special guests, ground displays, a \u201cMilitary Collectors\u2019 Flea Market,\u201d battle reenactments and live entertainment featuring Let\u2019s Dance Big Band, Frank Sings Frank, America\u2019s Sweethearts, Forecats and Swing Fever Big Band.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be air shows in the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, there will be an amazing number of vintage military airplanes featured at this weekend\u2019s \u2013 both as static displays and as aerial attractions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Some of the vintage aircraft featured at this year\u2019s WWII Weekend are North American SNJ \u201cTexan,\u201d Fairchild \u201cCornell,\u201d Grumman TBM-3E \u201cAvenger,\u201d Stampe SV-2CP, North American B-25J \u201cMitchell,\u201d Douglas C-54E \u201cSkymaster\u201d and Boeing C-97G \u201cStratofighter.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Aerial performers scheduled for this weekend are The Jersey Jerks, Kevin Russo Air Shows and Jerry Wells Airshows.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $46.46 for adults and $25.25 for children (ages 6-12).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On June 7,\u00a0SRUTI\u00a0(<a id=\"OWA8175adf3-1a8d-298e-8f48-60e9d7804f24\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Protected by Outlook: http:\/\/www.sruti.org\/. Peirce Middle School (1314 Burke Road, West Chester).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">SRUTI, The India Music and Dance Society is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization. Every year, around 10 or more world class music and dance recitals are presented during the Spring and Fall seasons by\u00a0SRUTI\u00a0in the Greater Philadelphia area.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Balachandran\u00a0is a veena player in the Carnatic tradition. The <a id=\"OWAcb471a3d-e33e-b5f2-59b6-4cb210369f26\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"South India\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_India\">South Indian<\/a>\u00a0Saraswati veena used in\u00a0Carnatic classical music is a lute. It is a long-necked, pear-shaped lute with 24\u00a0frets, four melody strings, and three drone strings.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Carnatic music\u00a0is a classical music tradition that\u00a0originates from South India, encompassing the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. It is one of the two major systems of Indian classical music, the other being Hindustani music from North India.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Considered a prodigious talent, Balachandran brings on the veena exceptional phrasal clarity that exposes microtonal and curvy nuances that characterize a deeper interpretation of raga-centric music. He discovers deeper structures of traditional and contemporary ragas as he interprets them spontaneously.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Ragas are interpreted in a variety of different moods and structures, as he explores them in alapana and swaraprasthara. He has also discovered a number of playing techniques that help him stretch the boundaries of clarity and precision.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Balachandran will be accompanied by Patri Satish Kumar on mridangam and Samyuktha Sreeram on ghatam.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0mridangam\u00a0is an ancient\u00a0percussion instrument\u00a0originating from the\u00a0Indian subcontinent. It is a double-sided drum whose body is usually made using a hollowed piece of jackfruit wood about an inch thick.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The ghatam is a\u00a0percussion instrument\u00a0used in various repertoires across the\u00a0Indian subcontinent, especially in\u00a0Southern India.\u00a0It is a clay pot with a narrow mouth. From the mouth, it slants outwards to form a ridge.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Satish Kumar\u00a0was born into a family of musicians. He was initiated into the art of percussion when he was seven by his mother Padmavathy, a renowned violinist.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A fine performer, composer, Kumar\u2019s specialization is his precise fingering technique and the fine balance of sounds between the treble and base heads of the mridangam.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Sreeram\u00a0is a disciple of the late ghatam and konakkol vidwan (expert), Sangita Kalacharya Sri TH Subash Chandran. She has more than 13 years of ghatam percussion experience and also has studied Carnatic vocal music.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show at Peirce Middle School on June 7 will start at 4:30 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $40 for adults, $25 for seniors and $025 for students.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 2025 Greek Festival at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (808 North Broom Street, Wilmington, 302-654-4446, <a id=\"OWA45f503c0-a218-29d4-65a1-8fa42f2c9f42\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.holytrinitywilmington.org\/\">www.holytrinitywilmington.org<\/a>) is running now through June 7.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The food menu at Holy Trinity features a lot of meat and vegetable items.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Pastitsio is a macaroni dish with braised ground lamb and beef that is topped with b\u00e9chamel sauce and baked.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">A similar entr\u00e9e is mousaka, which\u00a0features layers of eggplant, potato, ground lamb and beef, which is then baked and topped with a light b\u00e9chamel sauce.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Gyros are pita sandwiches featuring a spice-infused ground beef-and-lamb mixture that is grilled, sliced fresh and served with tzatziki (cucumber and yogurt sauce), tomatoes, onions and olives. Souvlaki\u00a0is grilled pork tenderloin marinated with special herbs.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other selections that can either be a main meal or a side dish are tyropita, which is a Greek-style cheese pie in a crispy phyllo crust; spanakopita, which is a tyropita that has spinach added; and Dolmades, which are rice and meat wrapped in grape leaves.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The most well-known Greek dessert is baklava, which is made with multiple layers of thin buttered phyllo dough cooked with walnuts, spices and honey syrup. Kataifi\u00a0features shredded wheat with chopped nuts and honey syrup.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Galaktoboureko\u00a0is a custard dessert baked between carefully placed pastry sheets and covered in syrup. Loukoumades, the Greek version of doughnuts, are deep-fried and dipped in honey with a dash of cinnamon.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Greek cuisine also includes a variety of mouth-watering cookies including kourabiedes\u00a0(butter cookie served with confectioner\u2019s sugar) and koulourakia\u00a0(butter cookie that is twisted, basted with egg yolk and baked.)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Greek American groups from the Delaware Valley will play popular Greek songs and standards and there will be performances of traditional Greek folk dances.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Other attractions are Greek grocery stores and sales booths with items such as Greek music, icons, custom-made jewelry, leather goods and fabric.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This weekend, it\u2019s also time for the annual Strawberry Festival at Linvilla Orchards (137 West Knowlton Road, Media, <a id=\"OWAef5078cc-648f-1892-8e37-9acda6f568f9\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linvilla.com\/\">www.linvilla.com<\/a>). The free festival will be held on June 7 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Linvilla\u2019s grounds in Media.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festive event will feature children\u2019s entertainment, hayrides, pony rides, face painting, costumed characters, children\u2019s games and contests, live music, ice cream sundaes, giant strawberry shortcake and strawberry treats.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Linvilla Grill will be serving hamburgers, pizza, fries, Ship Bottom Beer Garden, and corn roasting favorites.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Another special attraction will be the Delaware Valley\u2019s largest Strawberry Shortcake.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">An interesting and educational look at America\u2019s past with a special focus can be found in downtown Philadelphia his weekend.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors to the old, historical district in Philadelphia on June 7 will be able to enjoy \u201cElfreth\u2019s Alley Day 2025\u201d at Elfreth\u2019s Alley, which is located off Second Street (215-574-0560, <a id=\"OWA83f0d104-a395-b813-24df-ed1748d267eb\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elfrethsalley.org\/\">http:\/\/www.elfrethsalley.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">From 1-5 p.m., the oldest residential street in America will be hosting a traditional festival with colonial flavor.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This is an event which dates back to 1934 (90 years!), in which residents of Elfreth\u2019s Alley open their doors to allow visitors a glimpse of 21st century life in these 18th- and 19th-century houses.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors can discover how generation after generation have continued to preserve, alter and add to these historic structures.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The popular annual festival will feature colonial crafts, music, storytelling, refreshments, scavenger hunts and a wide array of hands-on games.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Historic Tours of the 32 historic residences on Elfreth\u2019s Alley will be offered between noon and 5 p.m.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On June 8, the Cherry Street Pier (South Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, <a id=\"OWAf2f31e2e-73cf-a107-73cd-e9d18eb387d4\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Protected by Outlook: http:\/\/www.delawareriverwaterfront.com\/events\/great-plaza-at-penn-s-landing\/acana-festival-2014. Click or tap to follow the link.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.delawareriverwaterfront.com\/events\/great-plaza-at-penn-s-landing\/acana-festival-2014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.delawareriverwaterfront.com<\/a>) will be the site of the\u00a0Islamic Heritage Festival.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The event, which is part of PECO\u2019s annual multicultural series at Penn\u2019s Landing, will feature a colorful parade and live performances featuring the Islamic culture.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The\u00a0Islamic Heritage Festival, which runs from 2-8 p.m., is free and open to the public.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u00a0\u0671\u0644\u0633\u064e\u0651\u0644\u064e\u0627\u0645\u064f \u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0643\u064f\u0645\u0652,\u00a0&#8212; \u201cAssalamu Alaikum\u201d (\u201cpeace be with you\u201d in Arabic).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On June 8, the Annual\u00a0Odunde\u00a0Festival (215-732-8510, <a id=\"OWA911956b2-6e35-3ab8-23f7-b73069e9c6b6\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"http:\/\/odeundefestival.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/odeundefestival.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/odeundefestival.org<\/a>) will be held from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. in the vicinity of 23rd and South streets in downtown Philadelphia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Odunde, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend,\u00a0attracts close to 500,000 people each year, covers 12 city blocks and is one of the largest African American street\u00a0festivals in the country.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The festival\u2019s authentic African marketplace features vendors from around the\u00a0world selling merchandise\u00a0from many African nations, the Caribbean and Brazil.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The free event, whose concept originates from the Yoruba people of Nigeria, celebrates the coming of another year. One of the highlights each year is a colorful procession from\u00a023rd and South streets to the Schuylkill River where an offering of\u00a0fruit and flowers is made to Oshun,\u00a0the Yoruba goddess of the river.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be continuous live music throughout the day along with also be traditional African dance performances.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Music headliners are hip-hop artists Rakim and Doug E. Fresh, who will perform at 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the stage at 23rd Street.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On June 7, Laurel Hill Cemetery (3822\u00a0Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, <a id=\"OWAcd8e176a-522b-ebd2-726a-f1de0bc6a148\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.laurelhillphl.com\/\">www.laurelhillphl.com<\/a>)<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">present \u201cOut of the Closet and Into the Crypt\u201d from 10 a.m.-noon.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Most Laurel Hill East residents lived at a time when it was illegal and\/or unsafe to be out as an LGBTQ+ person.
