Barnum &amp; Bailey Circus closed down a few years ago for many reasons \u2013 including PETA protests at every tour stop.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Big touring productions which featured an\u00a0array of performing animals no longer held the appeal they once had.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Fortunately, there are several smaller circuses &#8212; top-flight circuses \u2014 performing in tents around the country.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One of those new circuses is FL!P Circus,\u00a0which is currently returning to the area to take up residency under its Big Top in the parking lot of the King of Prussia Plaza (160 North Gulph Road, King of Prussia, <a id=\"OWA7235c89b-add6-5892-2166-360ff94408fa\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flipcircus.com\/\">www.flipcircus.com<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The new circus, which will run in King of Prussia until May 13, has been dazzling audiences since making its first appearance in 2022.<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Billed as one of America\u2019s best new family entertainment events, FL!P Circus showcases an impressive mix of international human performers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">FL!P Circus melds classic with contemporary to bring a complete circus experience for audiences \u2013 complete with a distinctive red and white striped, 800-seat, climate-controlled Big Top tent.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">As an added attraction, no seat at FL!P Circus is more than 50 feet from the ring.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Ringmaster Jan Vasquez is the host. Ther show also features the Bingo Troupe from Ukraine.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One of the show\u2019s highlights is the FL!P Circus Band. It has established its reputation as an area known for staging top-flight equestrian events.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\n<div id=\"attachment_20535\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20535\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-20535\" src=\"https:\/\/downingtowntimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/willow-350x242.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"242\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-20535\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Willowdale\u00a0Steeplechase<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 2025 equestrian season had its unofficial start last weekend with a big annual point-to-point event in Delaware.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This weekend, the spotlight will be on the Annual Willowdale\u00a0Steeplechase (Steeplechase grounds, routes 82 and 926, Unionville,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/willowdalesteeplechase.org\/\">willowdalesteeplechase.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This year\u2019s 32nd annual staging of the event will be held on May 10 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The initial competition will be the \u201cJack Russell Terrier Races\u201d\u00a0at 10:30 a.m. followed by the \u201cPony Races\u201d\u00a0at 11:30 a.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Willowdale\u00a0Steeplechase is a first-class steeplechase course that features an uphill approach to the fences. This encourages less speed and more jumping and, as a result, causes less wear and tear on the horses.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The first of seven steeplechase races will begin at 1 p.m. and the racing is scheduled to end between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Gates will close at 6 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This year\u2019s Willowdale\u00a0Steeplechase has several beneficiaries &#8212; The Stroud Water Research Center and The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine at New Bolton Center.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets are $50 at the gate.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20536\" src=\"https:\/\/downingtowntimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2025-WEBSITE-BANNER-1-1-350x123.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"123\" \/>The Yellow Springs Art Show (Art School Road, Chester Springs, <a id=\"OWA11794005-cea3-fbcc-3f53-8a88886be338\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yellowsprings.org\/\">www.yellowsprings.org<\/a>), which is one of the longest-running art shows in the state, is celebrating its 52nd anniversary in 2025.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Yellow Springs Art Show got its start back in 1973 as a free event featuring a variety of artists displaying their work on clotheslines.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">It has changed immeasurably since then and has become one of the largest and most prestigious annual art shows in the Delaware Valley.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show is still free and open to the public. The popular annual event now features close to 200 participating artists &#8212; including many artists who are new to the show this year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The show is running now through May 11 in Historic Yellow Springs Lincoln Building. Show hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 2025 Yellow Springs Art Show will have on display more than 3,000 pieces of fine art in a wide range of media and styles \u2013 oils, watercolors, bronze sculptures, pastels, landscapes, still life, three-dimensional works, seascapes and abstract.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">All proceeds benefit arts education, environmental protection and historic preservation of the 300-year-old village of Historic Yellow Springs.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tulip season has arrived, and you can see the colorful flowers in home gardens all around the area.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One of the more energetic traditional springtime events in Pennsylvania Dutch country is the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Association\u2019s annual \u201cSpring Stream Up\u201d (Rough and Tumble, 4977 Lincoln Highway East, Kinzers, 717-442-4249, <a id=\"OWA451ca6ff-512c-4dfe-de5b-2535ecce9752\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.roughandtumble.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.roughandtumble.org<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cSpring Steam-Up\u201d is looked at as a special event each year at Rough and Tumble &#8212; a time to get the steam engines out of hibernation and fire them up. It is also a time for the plowing to begin.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cSpring Steam-Up\u201d is scheduled for May 9 and 10 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. One of the highlights will be sessions of \u201cPlowing with Steam and Gas Tractors.\u201d This activity will be held only if weather is favorable to plow.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There will be a variety of displays featuring steam engines, gas engines, steam tractors, gas tractors and antique cars. Also featured will be a model shop, a sawmill, two steam trains and blacksmithing demonstrations at the museum\u2019s blacksmith shop.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cTractor Games\u201d are scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. The \u201cGarden Tractor Pull\u201d and the \u201cChildren\u2019s Pedal Tractor Pull\u201d will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Tickets for \u201cSpring Stream Up\u201d are $5 for adults and $2 for children (ages 6-12).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On May 10,\u00a0 Laurel Hill Cemetery (3822\u00a0Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, 215-228-8200, <a id=\"OWA339abb11-79d9-6504-3684-1e1069358540\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelaurelhillcemetery.org\/\">www.thelaurelhillcemetery.org<\/a>) will present \u201cAccessible Hot Spots and\u00a0Storied\u00a0Plots\u201d walking tour at 10 a.m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cAccessible Hot Spots &amp; Storied Plots\u201d walking tours are shorter than a typical Hot Spots &amp; Storied Plots tour and will stay on paved paths.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In life and in death, we all have stories to tell, and what better place to hear tales of wonder than Philadelphia\u2019s most famous home of the dead?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">This tour provides an informative overview of Laurel Hill\u2019s long history, which includes many of the marble masterpieces, stunning views, and legendary stories about Laurel Hill.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cHot Spots and\u00a0Storied\u00a0Plots\u201d is the perfect introduction for anyone who enjoys beautiful art, scenic nature, and fascinating history. The entrance is located on the campus of Nemours Children&#8217;s Health, follow signs for Nemours Estate.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">One of the site\u2019s popular spring events will be held this weekend.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">On May 10, Nemours will celebrate \u201cAlfred I. duPont Birthday Celebration.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The event, which runs from<b> <\/b>10 a.m.-5 p.m. will feature free ice cream treats for all.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Nemours\u00a0was the estate of Alfred I. duPont.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Originally constructed in 1910,\u00a0Nemours\u00a0Estate is one of Delaware\u2019s grandest buildings and includes the largest formal French garden in North America.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Nemours\u00a0Estate comprises an exquisite, 77-room mansion, the largest formal French gardens in North America, a Chauffeur&#8217;s Garage housing a collection of vintage automobiles, and 200 acres of scenic woodlands, meadows and lawns.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Gardens are one of the estate\u2019s prime attractions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The two elk at the top of the Vista are the work of French sculptor Prosper Lecourtier (1855\u20131924), a specialist in animal figures. Lined with Japanese\u00a0cryptomeria, pink flowering horse chestnuts and pin oaks, the Long Walk extends from the Mansion to the Reflecting Pool.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The 157 jets at the center of the one-acre pool shoot water 12 feet into the air; when they are turned off, the entire &#8220;Long Walk&#8221; is reflected in the pool. The pool, five and a half feet deep in its deepest section, holds 800,000 gallons of water and takes three days to fill.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Art Nouveau-style, classical mythology-based \u201cFour Seasons\u201d around the pool are by French-born American sculptor Henri Crenier (1873\u20131948).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Admission to\u00a0Nemours\u00a0is $23 for adults, $21 for seniors and $10 for children.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Hagley\u00a0Museum and Library (Buck Road East entrance via Route 100, Wilmington, Delaware, 302-658-2400, <a id=\"OWA1c74722a-9a3d-738e-3160-1ae1ea330437\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"Protected by Outlook: http:\/\/www.hagley.org\/. The theme on Saturday will be \u201cDigging into Compost.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">With the \u201cWalking Tour,\u201d participants can walk through history during an in-depth, 90-minute guided tour each Monday morning from March through December. This week\u2019s topic is \u201cWhat\u2019s for Dinner?\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0celebrates the American spirit of ingenuity by taking visitors on a journey from the early years of the patent system, in the 1790s, through the \u201cgolden age\u201d of American invention, in the late 1800s.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The exhibit features more than 120 patent models from\u00a0Hagley\u2019s unique collection highlighting the diverse stories of inventors from all walks of life.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Patent models are scaled representations of inventions and were part of the patent application process for nearly 100 years.\u00a0\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0showcases patent models representing innovations in a variety of industries from transportation and manufacturing to food preservation and medical devices.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">In the exhibition, visitors will enjoy engaging experiences around every corner, testing their knowledge of innovation and hearing personal accounts from inventors.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d is located on the first two floors of\u00a0Hagley\u2019s Visitor Center. Visitors can plan to spend about 30 minutes on their self-guided tour of the exhibition.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Admission to\u00a0Hagley\u00a0is $20 for adults, $16 for students and seniors (62+) and $10 for children (6-14).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum (2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster, 717.569.0401, <a id=\"OWAf3945494-3efa-05f1-4868-f1d6da166444\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.landisvalleymuseum.org\/\">www.landisvalleymuseum.org<\/a>) is holding its 36th annual Herb &amp; Garden Faire on May 9 and 10.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Landis Valley is transformed into a gardener&#8217;s paradise at this annual sale.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">With more than 80 vendors of heirlooms, natives, and other hard-to-find varieties as well as herbal skin care products, garden art, and jewelry spread out over the historic village area of the site, it&#8217;s a delightful shopping experience that&#8217;s quickly becoming a Mother&#8217;s Day weekend tradition.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Visitors can also grab a bite from the Faire\u2019s food vendors, listen to beautiful music, or tour gardens run by the museum\u2019s Heirloom Seed Project.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Herb &amp; Garden Faire will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Tickets will be available at the door.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">If you\u2019re out in Lancaster County, there are few out of the normal attractions \u2013 maybe even paranormal \u2013 for you to check out.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Ghost Tour of Lancaster and the Ghost Tour of Strasburg are based on the book, \u201cGhost Stories of Lancaster, PA.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">Participants in the\u00a0Ghost\u00a0Tour\u00a0of Lancaster explore the long-forgotten mysteries of one of America\u2019s oldest cities, with haunting tales of otherworldly vigils, fatal curses, and star-crossed lovers. The\u00a0tour\u00a0provides the opportunity to experience 300 years of haunted history from the Red Rose City\u2019s thorny past. Visitors will experience an entertaining evening with a costumed\u00a0tour\u00a0guide spinning tales of haunted mansions, eerie graveyards, and spirits that roam the night \u2026 in a town lost in time. Adolph Rosengarten, Sr., and his wife Christine chose the Wayne-St. Davids area to build their country retreat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">The Rosengartens hired architect and former classmate Charles L. Borie to design the house, which was completed in 1913. Landscape architect Thomas Sears designed the terraces as extensions of the house. A 1924 addition converted the summer home into a year-round residence and the family moved here permanently.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\">There are seven horticulturists, each responsible for the design, planting, and maintenance of an area.
