With a national presence, members for this tour come together from Lancaster County, Manhattan, Wisconsin and Denver for this unique production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><i>\u201cWe wanted to tell<\/i><i> <\/i><i>the story of British and Irish folk<\/i><i> <\/i><i>music in America.\u201d <\/i>says director Fiona Gillespie of her and partner Paul Morton\u2019s conception of the program. <i>\u201cWe\u2019re not the first to<\/i><i> <\/i><i>be fascinated by<\/i><i> <\/i><i>the history<\/i><i> <\/i><i>of<\/i><i> <\/i><i>that<\/i><i> <\/i><i>musical<\/i><i> <\/i><i>migration,<\/i><i> <\/i><i>so<\/i><i> <\/i><i>we<\/i><i> <\/i><i>looked<\/i><i> <\/i><i>for<\/i><i> <\/i><i>a new<\/i><i> <\/i><i>way<\/i><i> <\/i><i>to<\/i><i> <\/i><i>share<\/i><i> <\/i><i>it.<\/i><i> <\/i><i>This<\/i><i> <\/i><i>led to<\/i><i> <\/i><i>an idea<\/i><i> <\/i><i>&#8211; illustrate<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><i>that<\/i><i> <\/i><i>history<\/i><i> <\/i><i>via<\/i><i> <\/i><i>this<\/i><i> <\/i><i>single<\/i><i> <\/i><i>classic<\/i><i> <\/i><i>ballad.<\/i><i> <\/i><i>Barbara<\/i><i> <\/i><i>Allen<\/i><i> <\/i><i>has<\/i><i> <\/i><i>over<\/i><i> <\/i><i>500<\/i><i> <\/i><i>variants<\/i><i> <\/i><i>collected over<\/i><i> <\/i><i>five<\/i><i> <\/i><i>centuries across the isles and the southern United States.\u201d<\/i><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">The Crickets\u2019 program highlights six of these variants, interspersed throughout a program stocked with traditional dance tunes, sing-along numbers and a myriad of other musical selections all chosen in service to telling the narrative. The program, originally commissioned by the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, has been hailed, <i>\u201cGreat music and versatility\u2026 a spiritual experience. I&#8217;ve not [before]<\/i><i> <\/i><i>seen<\/i><i> <\/i><i>an<\/i><i> <\/i><i>audience<\/i><i> <\/i><i>pop<\/i><i> <\/i><i>up<\/i><i> <\/i><i>so<\/i><i> <\/i><i>immediately<\/i><i> <\/i><i>after<\/i><i> <\/i><i>a<\/i><i> <\/i><i>performance!\u201d <\/i>\u2013 <i>Kabin<\/i><i> <\/i><i>Thomas,<\/i><i> <\/i><i>Colorado<\/i><i> <\/i><i>Public <\/i><span class=\"s1\"><i>Radio.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><i>The<\/i><i> <\/i><i>Rose<\/i><i> <\/i><i>and<\/i><i> <\/i><i>Briar<\/i><i> <\/i>will be performed at Oxford Main Street gallery The Hook Experiment on Thursday, March 20 at 7pm.
