\"\"This is the time of the year for outdoors festivals such as country fairs, festivals honoring a particular fruit or vegetable and outdoor concerts.<\/div>\n

It\u2019s diamond time in West Goshen.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
One of the best — and longest-running \u2013 fairs is the annual Goshen Country Fair (Goshen Fairgrounds, Park Avenue, East Goshen, 610- 430-1554, www.goshencountryfair.org<\/a><\/u>).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The fair, which is celebrating its diamond anniversary (75th) this season, will run from July 29-August 3 at the Goshen Fairgrounds, which are located just off West Chester Pike three miles east of West Chester.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n
The free family-oriented event is held each year as a benefit for the Goshen Fire Company. It will open at 6 p.m. from Monday through Friday and at 5 p.m. on Saturday.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This is an authentic down-home country fair with all the agricultural events found at most traditional country fairs, including livestock competitions each night at 6 p.m.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The fair will also feature competitions for pies, vegetables, jams and jellies, specimen flowers, bread, cookies, flowering houseplants, cakes, flower arrangements, and candy. Nightly attractions include live music performances, tug-of-war competitions and pie-eating contests.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The schedule for live music includes Cherry Crush Duo on July 29, Johnny \u201cCash\u201d Barnett Band on July 30, West Chester Swing Kings on July 31, Northern Rednecks on August 1, Chester County Lawmen on August 2 and Southern Edge Band on August 3.<\/div>\n

Kimberton Community Fair<\/p><\/div>\n

If you enjoy country fairs, you should check out the Annual Kimberton Community Fair (Kimberton Fairgrounds, Route 113, Kimberton, 610-933-4566, http:\/\/kimbertonfair.org<\/a><\/u>) which is running now through July 27.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
The Kimberton Community Fair, which was first staged in 1929, is one of the oldest community fairs in the state \u2014 and one of the last \u201cfree admission\u201d fairs operating in the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs. The Kimberton Fair is a \u201cfree admission fair with parking by donation.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As always, the fair offers a huge array of free attractions \u2014 a festive midway with amusement rides, live entertainment shows, nightly contests, exhibit buildings and livestock displays.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The fair will be held at the Kimberton Fairgrounds on Route 113 approximately one mile south of Phoenixville. The non-profit event, which lists the volunteer Kimberton Fire Company as its beneficiary, attracts over 60,000 people each year.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
There will also be open class and 4-H competitions along with a full midway of rides by Reithoffer Shows.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Kimberton Fair is a \u201crain-or-shine\u201d event \u2013 more or less.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to the event\u2019s website, they never officially \u201cclose\u201d the fair as a result of rain because they must remain \u201copen\u201d to adhere to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture operating guidelines.<\/div>\n
The indoor attractions stay open even in inclement weather, but the festival may shut down any amusement ride if the weather causes safety issues.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\"\"Now through July 27, Brandywiners, Ltd. (brandywiners.org<\/a>) are moving into their summer home at Longwood Gardens (Route 1, Kennett Square, www.longwoodgardens.org<\/a><\/u>) where they will perform a four-show run of \u201cSuessical.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cSuessical\u201d is a\u00a0musical\u00a0comedy\u00a0by\u00a0Lynn Ahrens\u00a0and\u00a0Stephen Flaherty, based on the many children’s stories of\u00a0Dr. Seuss, with most of its plot being based on\u00a0Horton Hears a Who!,\u00a0Gertrude McFuzz, and\u00a0Horton Hatches the Egg\u00a0while incorporating many other stories.<\/div>\n

The musical’s name is a portmanteau of \u201cSeuss\u201d and the word \u201cmusical.\u201d<\/div>\n

Narrated by the ever-popular Cat in the Hat,\u00a0Seussical\u00a0tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos.<\/div>\n

\u201cOh, the thinks you can think\u201d when Dr. Seuss\u2019 best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper!\u00a0Seussical, narrated by the ever-popular Cat in the Hat, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many \u201cthinks.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.<\/div>\n

Longwood Gardens is one of the best outdoor attractions in the area, one of the best family attractions in the state and one of the best gardens attractions in the country.<\/div>\n

As part of Historic Philadelphia\u2019s celebration at Franklin Square (200 Sixth Street, Philadelphia, www.historicphiladelphia.org<\/a>), the organization is illuminating the park with its annual \u201cPhiladelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square.\u201d<\/div>\n

Now through August 18, Franklin Square will come alive every night with its Chinese Lantern Festival featuring more than two dozen illuminated lanterns \u2013 all constructed by lantern artisans from China.<\/div>\n
Chinese-inspired performances will take place in Franklin Square twice nightly. Performances, which celebrate Chinese performance art and entertainment, are 30-minutes long and are scheduled for 7 and 9 p.m.<\/div>\n

The intriguing new production\u00a0Paranormal\u00a0Cirque\u00a0(https:\/\/paranormalcirque.com<\/a><\/u>), which is intended for a mature audience, is touching down at several locations over the next six weeks \u2013Pottstown (July 18-21) and Dover, Delaware (July 25-28).<\/div>\n

The boat ride is a one-hour family-friendly tour of Philly\u2019s second biggest river featuring sights such as Bartram\u2019s Garden and Fairmount Water Works.<\/div>\n
Riders can discover the Hidden River on a fun and educational riverboat tour while seeing spectacular views of Philadelphia.<\/div>\n

They can also learn about the past, present, and future of the tidal Schuylkill River and its impact on Philadelphia on a one-hour\u00a0Secrets of the Schuylkill\u00a0tour which costs $25 for adults and $15 for children (age 12 and under).<\/div>\n

Tours depart from the Walnut Street Dock, under the Walnut Street Bridge, east bank of the Schuylkill River. Tours are scheduled for August 6 at 1 and 3 p.m. and August 10 at 5:30 and 7:15 p.m.<\/div>\n
An interesting annual summer event in Pennsylvania Dutch country is the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association\u2019s \u201cJohn Deere Days\u201d (4977 Lincoln Highway East, Kinzers, 717-442-4249,www.roughandtumble.org<\/a><\/u>).<\/div>\n

The event is scheduled for July 26 and 27 with activities slated to get underway at 9 a.m. each day.<\/div>\n
This annual show, which is sponsored by the Waterloo Boys Club of Southeastern Pennsylvania, features a wide range of John Deere tractors with \u201cDeere History\u201d and \u201cTractor Pulling\u201d events.<\/div>\n
One of the highlights each day will be the \u201cJohn Deere Parade of Power,\u201d which is a showcase for many different and unique models.<\/div>\n

On Friday, there will be the \u201cGarden Tractor Parade\u201d and the \u201cTractor Pull.\u201d Popular activities on Saturday include the \u201cKiddy Pedal Pull,\u201d \u201cLarge Tractor Pulling\u201d and the always-popular \u201cRaffle Tractor Drawing.\u201d<\/div>\n

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth (ages 12-18). Children under 12 years are admitted free.<\/div>\n
This has traditionally been the weekend for a huge annual craft fair at the Chase Center at the Riverfront, which is located on Justison Street in Wilmington, Delaware.<\/div>\n

For the last few years, the event has been the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen Fine Craft Fair.<\/div>\n
This year\u2019s event, which is scheduled for July 27 and 28, is known as Rose Squared Art Show Chase Center\u00a0(https:\/\/centerontheriverfront.com\/<\/a><\/u>)<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The event will showcase the work of more than 140 artisans, ranging from one-of-a-kind clothing, jewelry, ceramics, glass, sculpture, artisan furniture and more.<\/div>\n
Show hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.<\/div>\n

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.<\/div>\n

Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library (5105 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, 800-448-3883, www.winterthur.org<\/a><\/u>) is a great summertime destination.<\/div>\n

There seems to be no end to what\u2019s in bloom — and in almost every corner of the garden.<\/div>\n
The garden is a result of the artistic vision of its creator, Henry Francis du Pont (1880-1969) and is surrounded by nearly 1,000 acres of meadows, farmland, and waterways.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The views in every direction are important to the whole. The paths are an integral part of the overall design, curving rather than straight, following the contours of the land, passing around trees, and drawing walkers into the garden.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Visitors can explore the garden on foot, or on a narrated tram ride (March-December).<\/div>\n
Penns Woods Winery (124 Beaver Valley Road, Chadds Ford, http:\/\/www.pennswoodswinery.com<\/a><\/u>) is hosting \u201cWheels & Wine Vintage Car Show\u201d on July 27 from noon-4 p.m.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The event will feature incredible vintage cars, premium wine and live music by Rick Caldwell from 2-5 p.m.<\/div>\n

The roster of food vendors includes Shugar Shack Soul Food, Calaveras Street Tacos and Brusters Ice Cream.<\/div>\n

There will also be an \u201cArtisan Market\u201d featuring local vendors.<\/div>\n

In addition to wine available by the glass, there will be food items available for purchase.<\/div>\n

The Lititz Outdoor Fine Art Show celebrated its golden anniversary and few years ago and is still going strong well into its second half-century.<\/div>\n

On July 27, the Lititz Art Association will present the 57th Annual Lititz Outdoor Fine Art Show at Lititz Springs Park (Route 501,\u00a0Lititz, http:\/\/www.lititzartassociation.com<\/a><\/u>).<\/div>\n

The free event, which is always held the last Saturday in July — and always held rain or shine — will run from 9 a.m-5 p.m. at the park, which is located between the Square and the railroad track next to Wilbur\u2019s Chocolate Factory.<\/div>\n

It is a juried art show presented by the Lititz Art Association that is open to all fine artists over the age of 17. The show\u2019s organizers stress that this is an art show and not a craft show and that there will be no jewelry, photographs, Christmas decorations, needlework, or other non-art items featured in the exhibition\/sale.<\/div>\n

The 31st\u00a0annual Moonlight Memories Car Show (http:\/\/www.hatborocarshow.com<\/a>), which is sponsored by the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce, will take place July 27 on York Road between Summit Avenue and Horsham Road from 5-10 p.m.<\/div>\n

Downtown Hatboro will be the center of attention when more than 500 cars roll into town for the annual Moonlight Memories Car Show.<\/div>\n

Riders can take a leisurely 1.5-hour round-trip ride up the Red Clay Valley to the Mt. Cuba Picnic Grove, where they can de-train to enjoy a half-hour layover along the banks of the Red Clay Creek to have a picnic or simply admire the natural surroundings.<\/div>\n

For those who don\u2019t want to get off the train at Mt. Cuba, they can remain onboard and travel further up the line through the communities of Ashland and Yorklyn. On the return trip, there will be a brief stop at Mt. Cuba to pick up the picnic passengers.<\/div>\n

The \u201cYorklyn Limited\u201d excursion is the re-branded name of the \u201cMt. Cuba Meteor\u201d excursion.<\/div>\n

He named the estate\u00a0Nemours, after the French town that his great-great-grandfather represented in the French Estates General. The two elk at the top of the Vista are the work of French sculptor Prosper Lecourtier (1855\u20131924), a specialist in animal figures. Lined with Japanese\u00a0cryptomeria, pink flowering horse chestnuts and pin oaks, the Long Walk extends from the Mansion to the Reflecting Pool.<\/div>\n

The 157 jets at the center of the one-acre pool shoot water 12 feet into the air; when they are turned off, the entire \u201cLong Walk\u201d is reflected in the pool. The pool, five and a half feet deep in its deepest section, holds 800,000 gallons of water and takes three days to fill. The Art Nouveau-style, classical mythology-based \u201cFour Seasons\u201d around the pool are by French-born American sculptor Henri Crenier (1873\u20131948).<\/div>\n

Each participant is outfitted with a harness and gloves. Each course has a continuous belay system — a lifeline that is impossible to detach without a staff member. The activity is self-guided, and the staff is ready to assist when needed.<\/div>\n
