Valentine\u2019s Day 2023 is just a few days away — February 14.<\/p>\n

That means that married couples, lovers, boyfriends and girlfriends, boyfriends and boyfriends, engaged couples, girlfriends and girlfriends, sweethearts and event pet owners and their pets will be celebrating the annual romantic holiday this weekend \u2013 and celebrating some more on February 14.<\/p>\n

On February 12 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Hagley Museum and Library (Route 141, Wilmington, Delaware, 302-658-2400,\u00a0www.hagley.org<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) will host its 2023 edition of \u201cVictorine\u2019s Valentine Day\u201d.<\/p>\n

Victorine\u2019s party will be held at Blacksmith Hill, the restored 19th-century workers\u2019 community where the lives of the du Ponts and the people who worked for their company connected. <\/p>\n

Here lived a woman named Victorine du Pont Bauduy (1792-1861), the eldest daughter of the DuPont Company founder. During Victorine\u2019s Valentine Day, \u201cVictorine\u201d will tell her story, as well as other love stories from the 19th century.<\/p>\n

Victorine was the daughter of E. I. du Pont, who built the mills on the Brandywine. She fell in love with Ferdinand Bauduy, the son of E. I.\u2019s business partner. E. I. opposed the marriage, believing the couple was too young to be married.<\/p>\n

Ferdinand moved to France for two years, during which time Victorine pined for him. After two years, E. I. relented, and the young couple joyfully married in 1813.<\/p>\n

Tragically, 11 weeks after their marriage, Bauduy became ill and passed away. Victorine was heartbroken, but after a long period of grief, she found a new passion in her life. Victorine threw herself into teaching at the Brandywine Manufacturers\u2019 Sunday School. She remained the superintendent until her death in 1861.<\/p>\n

In addition to the telling of Victorine\u2019s story, the event will feature other activities.<\/p>\n

Visitors will be able to make a Valentine\u2019s Day card using the scrap method popular in the Victorian era, wrap a candy bar with their own design to give as a gift to that special someone and get creative at the hot cocoa bar with whipped cream, chocolate chips, and other tasty treats.<\/p>\n

Participants will also be able to meet Victorine and learn a bit about her life. Another special activity will be using a quill pen to write valentine verses.<\/p>\n

Admission to Hagley Museum is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and $6 for children (ages 6-14). Victorine\u2019s Valentine activities are included with regular admission.<\/p>\n

Hagley Museum and Library, a 230-acre historical village on the site of the original du Pont Company gunpowder mills in northern Delaware, has just opened a new attraction \u2013 \u201cNation of Inventors.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0celebrates the American spirit of ingenuity by taking visitors on a journey from the early years of the patent system, in the 1790s, through the \u201cgolden age\u201d of American invention, in the late 1800s. The exhibit features more than 120 patent models from Hagley\u2019s unique collection highlighting the diverse stories of inventors from all walks of life.<\/p>\n

Patent models are scaled representations of inventions and were part of the patent application process for nearly 100 years.\u00a0\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0<\/em>showcases patent models representing innovations in a variety of industries from transportation and manufacturing to food preservation and medical devices.<\/p>\n

In the exhibition, visitors will enjoy engaging experiences around every corner, testing their knowledge of innovation and hearing personal accounts from inventors.<\/p>\n

The patent models in\u00a0\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d\u00a0<\/em>were created between 1833 and 1886. \u201cNation of Inventors\u201d not only features patent models submitted by inventors from the United States, but also models from inventors in England, France, Ireland, Russia, and Spain, demonstrating an international interest in America\u2019s intellectual property system.<\/p>\n

\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d includes patent models from well-known inventors and companies like Ball (Mason Jars), Jim Beam, Bissell, Corliss, Steinway, and Westinghouse. The exhibit presents important topics and timely themes including women inventors, Black inventors, immigrant inventors, improvements in urban living, and the ways Americans learn about and understand progress and change.<\/p>\n

\u201cNation of Inventors\u201d is located on the first two floors of Hagley\u2019s Visitor Center. Visitors can plan to spend about 30 minutes on their self-guided tour of the exhibition.<\/p>\n

In February, all guest areas are open Fridays through Mondays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last admission is at 3 p.m. \u00a0On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, only Hagley\u2019s new exhibition, Nation of Inventors, is open. \u00a0All other guest areas (the historic powder yard, the historic home and garden, etc.) are closed. \u00a0Reduced admission\u00a0is offered on days when only Nation of Inventors is open.<\/p>\n

Beginning March 1, all guest areas (Nation of Inventors, the historic powder yard, the historic home and garden, etc.) are open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. \u00a0Last admission is at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cLincoln Mill Haunted House\u201d (4100 Ridge Avenue, Manayunk,\u00a0www.lincolnmillhaunt.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) was Philadelphia\u2019s newest haunted attraction back in October.<\/p>\n

Now, the site is hosting a one-night only special attraction \u2013 \u201cViktor\u2019s Valentine: A Dark Love Story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Equipped only with a candle, guests will venture through the hidden chamber in the darkness. With a Valentine\u2019s Day twist, this blackout experience will heighten your senses as you encounter the mill\u2019s inhabitants and the ghost of Viktor\u2019s Valentine.<\/p>\n

In the 1930s, Viktor Kane had several accomplices that helped him carry out his evil acts. One of them loved Viktor but developed a deep resentment towards him. She wanted the pain to stop and so she came up with a plan to take down his operation.<\/p>\n

On February 14th, 1939, she left a trail of hearts inside the hidden chamber.<\/p>\n

At the end of the trail, she revealed herself, greeted Viktor with a kiss, and then stabbed him in the heart. She then took her own life, wanting to be free of her guilt, her body, and to be with Viktor forever.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The attraction takes guests on a journey through an interactive living story featuring more than 40 live scare-actors, production quality sets, props, animatronics, and breath-taking special effects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Legend of Viktor\u2019s Valentine: A Dark Love Story\u201d runs from 6:30-10 p.m. Tickets are $25.<\/p>\n

Laurel Hill Cemetery (3822\u00a0Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, 215-228-8200,\u00a0www.thelaurelhillcemetery.org<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) will have two special events this weekend.<\/p>\n

On February 11, Laurel Hill Cemetery will present \u201cHot Spots and\u00a0Storied\u00a0Plots\u201d walking tour at 10 a.m.\u00a0 and the \u201c\u2019Til Death Do Us Part: Love Stories of Laurel Hill Walking Tour\u201d on February 12 from 1-3 p.m.<\/p>\n

Visitors on February 12 can celebrate the \u201cspirit\u201d of Valentine\u2019s Day with their soulmates in one of Philadelphia\u2019s most romantic and mysterious locations. Laurel Hill East\u2019s love stories walking tour was inspired by the little-known story of Mary Peterson whose heart \u2013 and only her heart \u2013 now lies buried beneath the cemetery\u2019s earth. Learn about her symbolic, final gesture, and other tales of love as varied as the souls from which they transpired.<\/p>\n

Each participant will take home Mary\u2019s story and an anatomical heart chocolate pop from Mueller\u2019s Chocolate Company.<\/p>\n

In life and in death, we all have stories to tell, and what better place to hear tales of wonder than Philadelphia\u2019s most famous home of the dead?<\/p>\n

The \u201cHot Spots and\u00a0Storied\u00a0Plots\u201d tour provides an informative overview of Laurel Hill\u2019s long history, which includes many of the marble masterpieces, stunning views, and legendary stories about Laurel Hill.<\/p>\n

Valentine\u2019s Day and chocolates have been a match made in heaven for a long time. Not surprisingly, Valentine\u2019s Day is in the top four for holiday candy sales.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re wondering how the top four fare against each other, you might be surprised at the answer. Easter is first with Christmas not far behind. Valentine\u2019s Day is back a little in third with Halloween a close fourth.<\/p>\n

The romantic holiday is just a few days away and wine-loving chocoholics have been \u2013 and will be \u2014 celebrating all month.<\/p>\n

Valentine\u2019s Day arrives in the middle of February and that\u2019s a holiday that is a natural for gifting and consuming chocolate delights and fine wine.<\/p>\n

Many wineries around the area have found a way to elevate moods \u2013 and get a Valentine\u2019s Day vibe going — by presenting events that feature wine and chocolate tastings.<\/p>\n

Each weekend in February, the winery will be offering its Wine & Chocolate\u00a0pairing which includes\u00a0a tasting of five wines perfectly paired with five hand-crafted chocolates from Good Good Chocolates. The pairing is\u00a0$38 per person\u00a0and reservations are required.<\/p>\n

The Berks County Wine Trail (www.berkscountywinetrail.com<\/a>) will present \u201cChocolate & Wine Pairing\u00a0Event\u00a0Weekends\u201d to celebrate Valentine\u2019s Day. The\u00a0event\u00a0is scheduled for February 11, 12, 18 and 19 from noon-5 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n

Visitors can toast Valentines\u2019 Day during two sweet weekends on the wine trail sampling sumptuous chocolates and confections paired with featured wines of the region. They can visit each of the 10 participating wineries along the Berks County Wine Trail to determine their favorite pairing combo.<\/p>\n

The list of wineries and featured tastings includes: Deerfoot Winery (Shoemakersville); Manatawny Creek Winery (Douglassville); Kog Hill Winery (Morgantown); Long Trout Winery (Auburn); Stoudt\u2019s Winery (Shartlesville); Setter Ridge Vineyards (Kutztown); Stonekeep Meadery (Fleetwood); Lily\u2019s Winery & Vineyard (Reading); Blue Mountain Winery (New Tripoli) and Ridgewood Winery (Birdsboro).<\/p>\n

\"\"If you\u2019re looking for another out-of-the-ordinary way to celebrate Valentine\u2019s Day, you might want to consider taking part in the \u201cSweetheart Skate\u201d at the Blue Cross RiverRink (Market Street at the Delaware River, Philadelphia,\u00a0www.riverrink.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cSweetheart Skate\u201d is slated for February 14 at the outdoor rink with skating sessions from 7-10:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The event\u2019s focus is providing a suitable atmosphere for guests to skate with their special someone and RiverRink features one of the most romantic settings in the city.<\/p>\n

Participants in \u201cSweetheart Skate\u201d will be able to enjoy flowers,\u00a0slow jams by DJ NASH,\u00a0boardwalk games, rides, cozy cabins, firepits and \u201cfavorite lovey-dovey films\u201d in the Lodge.<\/p>\n

Unlike most of the suburban ice rinks,\u00a0RiverRink\u00a0features public skating. Ice skating is the only use of the ice. This winter,\u00a0RiverRink\u00a0takes the ice-skating experience on the Delaware River waterfront to another level by once again transforming the annual rink into a bona fide winter wonderland.<\/p>\n

For 28\u00a0seasons, Winterfest has been Philadelphia\u2019s favorite Winter tradition on the Delaware River Waterfront, inviting\u00a0visitors for a chance to indulge in flights of fancy under\u00a0thousands of sparkling lights in a\u00a0winter wonderland with spectacular views of the Delaware River, complete with comforting warming cabins, physically distanced fire pit stations, games for the young and young-at-heart, delicious food and refreshing drinks, the signature holiday tree and \u2014 of course \u2014 ice skating on an NHL-sized rink.<\/p>\n

It is an unparalleled entertainment experience on Philadelphia\u2019s center stage in a wonderfully urban and unique setting. Open seven days a week, the rink offers wintery fun for all ages, with a full slate of programs.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Colebrookdale\u00a0Railroad (South Washington Street, Boyertown,\u00a0www.colebrookdalerailroad.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>)\u00a0is running its \u201cValentine\u2019s Day \u2014 Romance on the Rails\u201d excursions on February 11, 12, 13 and 14.<\/p>\n

The Edwardian splendor of the Secret Valley Expedition\u00a0will surely kindle romantic fires as the train journeys into the night. The rail line has taken care of all of the details so that you and your love can sit back, relax, and let the world fade away as you focus on each other. This Valentine\u2019s Day do something different \u2014 get aboard a 1920\u2019s era train and enjoy a hand prepared meal as you leisurely wind your way through the Secret Valley.<\/p>\n

\u201cCupid\u2019s Arrow Dinner Train\u201d will run on February 11 at 5 p.m. and February 14 at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

The \u201cDuchess of Colebrookdale Brunch and Tea Train\u201d is scheduled for February 12 at noon.<\/p>\n

The New Hope Railroad (32 West Bridge St, New Hope, 215- 862-2332,\u00a0www.newhoperailroad.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) offers its annual \u201cRomantic Valentine\u2019s Excursion\u201d on February 11.<\/p>\n

Riders can take a step back in time and experience the romantic luxury of America\u2019s railroads in premium turn-of-the-century Parlor cars for an intimate 60-minute excursion through the foothills of beautiful Bucks County.<\/p>\n

During the trip, they can enjoy table-seated comfort while sampling light fare served by knowledgeable Parlor Car attendants. Each couple will receive a lush sweet and savory charcuterie spread, a long-stemmed red rose, and a takeaway to share later. Guests over 21 years of age will also receive a flight of hand-crafted demi cocktails to sample and pair with the spread.<\/p>\n

The excursions will run at 3 and 5 p.m. on February 11.<\/p>\n

Fares start at $109.<\/p>\n

The Northern Central Railway (2 West Main Street, New Freedom,\u00a0www.northerncentralrailway.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>)\u00a0is running its \u201cAles on the Rails – Will you BEER my Valentine!\u201d event on February 11 from 1-4 p.m.<\/p>\n

Riders can join Brewery Tours and their fun and knowledgeable Beer Guides aboard Northern Central Railway of York for a pretty sweet craft beer experience!<\/p>\n

The ticket includes a guided tasting of 10 five-ounce craft beer samples from South County Brewery with a special cheesecake pairing, a keepsake tasting glass, as well as complimentary water and snacks.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $99.<\/p>\n

The Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad (Reading Outer Station, Reading,\u00a0www.rbmnrr-passenger.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) is running its 2023 \u201cValentine\u2019s Special Train Excursions\u201d on February 11 and 12.<\/p>\n

Trains will depart Reading Outer Station and travel to the scenic riverside town of Jim Thorpe.<\/p>\n

There will be a layover in Jim Thorpe for riders to check out the quant town and dine in one of the many fine restaurants.<\/p>\n

Each passenger will be given a chocolate treat to enjoy.<\/p>\n

Round trip tickets are $39.<\/p>\n

Model trains will also be featured at a special event this weekend.<\/p>\n

A huge selection of model trains and toys will be on display and available for sale when Greenberg\u2019s Train & Toy Show\u00a0visits the area for a two-day stop at the Chase Center on the Riverfront (815 Justison Street, Wilmington, Delaware,\u00a0630- 279-4087,\u00a0www.greenbergshows.com<\/em><\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

The show, which is scheduled for February 11 and 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days, will have a wide variety of toys for sale \u2014 space toys, Thomas the Tank Engine items, dolls, collectible bears, Barbie, Matchbox, action figures, die-cast models, wrestling stars, Pokemon figures and much more.<\/p>\n

And there will be an amazing exhibit of toy trains.<\/p>\n

The event will feature a number of operating train displays, including\u00a0New Jersey Southern N-Trak\u2019s 26\u00d738 N Scale Layout and Railroad in a Box\u2019s 10 x 20 HO\u00a0Scale Layout.
\n‍This weekend\u2019s show will also offer free workshops and demonstrations on a wide variety of topics, including track work, using accessories and using a digital command control. There will be a large array of dealers with toys, trains, accessories and hobby publications. Other features include door prizes giveaways.<\/p>\n

Tickets for adults are $11 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday. Tickets are good for both days. Children (12 and under) are admitted free.<\/p>\n

The newest exhibition at the Brandywine Museum of Art (1 Hoffman Mill Road, Chadds Ford, brandywine.org<\/a>), \u201cAndrew Wyeth: Home Places,\u201d opened last weekend and will run through July 13.<\/p>\n

This exhibition\u00a0is a presentation of nearly 50 paintings and drawings of local buildings that inspired Wyeth time and again over seven decades of his career.<\/p>\n

The artworks in this exhibition are drawn exclusively from the nearly 7,000-object Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Collection of the Wyeth Foundation for American Art, now managed by the Brandywine. Many of these pieces have never before been exhibited, offering a first glimpse at a significant treasure trove that will shed new light on the collaborative creative process of Andrew and Betsy Wyeth.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndrew Wyeth: Home Places\u201d\u00a0shares the story of a remarkable immersive and intensive artistic practice that ranged across the full array of media Andrew Wyeth practiced. Over the course of a long and diverse career of many chapters, Wyeth repeatedly depicted a small group of historic houses in the vicinity of his hometown of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

In these weathered buildings others might have overlooked or even scorned in the face of gentrification and commercial development of the region, Wyeth found layers of emotion and association. These structures\u2014both venerable and vulnerable in a changing Brandywine Valley\u2014served as a means of pursuing his abiding attention to that which lies beneath the surface of things.<\/p>\n

Through living in this landscape his whole life, he engaged in an artistic practice of uncommon focus over an extended timescale, coming to know deeply the evocative buildings in a radius of just a few square miles and rendering them in an astonishing variety of compositions, handlings and approaches. As Wyeth said, \u201cYou can be in a place for years and years and not see something, and then when it dawns, all sorts of nuggets of richness start popping all over the place. You\u2019ve gotten below the obvious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the previously unexhibited works on view are the charming early oil\u00a0\u201cThe Miller\u2019s Son,\u201d\u00a0painted when Wyeth was just 17 years old, and the stunning watercolor\u00a0\u201cNoah\u2019s Ark Study\u201d\u00a0made at age 87\u2014both depicting the same property, Brinton\u2019s Mill.<\/p>\n

That the Wyeths came to own and restore this property for use as their primary residence is among the many contributions of Betsy James Wyeth, whose distinct role in stewarding historic properties in Pennsylvania and Maine, which informed her husband\u2019s painting practice, is a key context of this exhibition.<\/p>\n

Museum admission is $18 adults, $15 seniors (65+), $6\u00a0children (ages 6-18) and students with ID\u00a0and free for children (ages five and under).<\/p>\n

Longwood Gardens (Route 1, Kennett Square, 610-388-1000, www.longwoodgardens.org<\/a>) is now featuring one of its popular annual special events \u2013 \u201cWinter Wonder.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWinter Wonder,\u201d which runs from January 21-March 26, celebrates the beauty of winter. It\u2019s all about outdoor spacious, indoor oasis, and the power of story.<\/p>\n

Outside, visitors can find a sense of peace and tranquility as they walk past textural grasses, seed heads and the dramatic silhouettes of trees that stretch up into the sky.<\/p>\n

Inside, they can bask in a world of warmth that features an overhead garden of hanging baskets adorned with such vibrant beauties as jasmine, cape-primrose, and lipstick-plant.<\/p>\n

Visitors will be able to enjoy a paradise of flowers and foliage, bursting with color — all in a beautiful indoor winter wonderland with a tropical twist.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinter Wonder\u201d exists on two levels.<\/p>\n

Both outdoors and in, they can embark on a poignant journey with\u00a0\u201cVoices in the Landscape: Deeply Rooted with Storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston\u201d Beginning on March 11. This is a series of 10 stops throughout the Gardens which honor the contributions of the African American community through the lens of horticulture and the power of story.<\/p>\n

Participants will follow along as storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston honors and celebrates the strength, resilience, and contributions of the African American community through the lens of horticulture and the power of story.<\/p>\n

Those taking the tour can hear an ancient Zulu creation myth paired with the oldest plant on Earth in the Conservatory; make their way to the Lookout Loft Treehouse and learn the story of the significance and symbolism of woods and meadows; and call out the name of an ancestor in remembrance at the Large Lake while a traditional spiritual soothes your soul.<\/p>\n

\u201cVoices in the Landscape\u201d signage is at each stop. Each audio recording ranges between three and eight minutes in length. The estimated time to experience the entire Voices in the Landscape exhibit is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.<\/p>\n

Inside Longwood’s Conservatory, visitors can check out the towering Clerodendrum schmidtii (chains of glory) as well as nearly 300 blooming orchids on display in the site\u2019s newly renovated Orchid House. A new attraction this year is Longwood Gardens\u2019 \u201cScience Saturdays series.<\/p>\n

Beyond the boundaries of the formal gardens, Longwood stewards a rich variety of natural habitats. The rolling terrain of the Pennsylvania piedmont and changing ways people have used land over time provide us with diverse conditions for plant and animal life. Dr. Lea Johnson, Associate Director, Land Stewardship and Ecology, will reveal how patterns in the landscape reveal both history and potential futures for biodiversity.<\/p>\n

The topics for Science Saturday events are \u201cPlant Exploration Around the World\u201d on February 18 and \u201cPlant Collections: Clivia\u201d on\u00a0March 18.<\/p>\n

There also will be another series called \u201cSweet Floral Treats\u201d\u2014a make-and-take floral design class where the designer draws inspiration from a sweet treat. Classes will be presented on February 23 and March 22.<\/p>\n

The gardens are open from Wednesdays through Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday, March 31. Hours change in the spring.<\/p>\n

As always, admission by \u201cTimed Ticket\u201d — tickets issued for specific dates and times. Timed ticketing limits the number of people in the Gardens at any given time and allows guests to enjoy minimal lines and a better viewing experience.<\/p>\n

You may enter the Gardens up to 30 minutes prior and 30 minutes after your designated time. Make every effort to arrive at your designated reservation time. Earlier or later arrivals may not be accommodated.<\/p>\n

Admission to Longwood Gardens is $25 for adults, $22 for seniors (ages 62 and older) and college students, $18 for active military and veterans and $13 for youth (ages 5-18).<\/p>\n

Delaware Museum of Art (2301 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, Delaware, delart.org<\/a>) has an impressive exhibition that is in its final two weeks — \u201cA Marriage of Arts & Crafts: Evelyn & William De Morgan.\u201d<\/p>\n

Running through February 19, \u201cA Marriage of Arts & Crafts: Evelyn & William De Morgan\u201d focuses on the work of Arts and Crafts pottery maker William De Morgan (1839-1917) and Pre-Raphaelite painter Evelyn De Morgan (1855-1919) who lived in harmony as married artists in Victorian England.<\/p>\n

A power couple, they encouraged one another\u2019s creative pursuits and engaged in the social issues of their day. William De Morgan created brilliantly colored tiles, pots, and plates with distinctive, shimmering lustre-ware surfaces. Evelyn De Morgan took inspiration from Botticelli to create richly symbolic paintings of modern subjects. This visually stunning exhibition is making its American debut at the Delaware Art Museum.<\/p>\n

Admission to the Museum is $14 for adults, $7 for students and $6 for youth (ages 7-18). Children (6 and under) are admitted free.<\/p>\n

The American Swedish Historical Museum\u00a0(1900 Pattison Avenue,\u00a0Philadelphia, 215-389-1776, www.americanswedish.org<\/a>) will have a special event this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cSemlor and a Movie\u201d will be held on February 11 starting at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n

Participants can treat themselves to a rich\u00a0semla (a cream and almond paste-filled Swedish pastry) with a cup of hot coffee and a Swedish movie.<\/p>\n

The movie is \u201cS\u00e5 som i himmelen \u201c(English: As It Is in Heaven). The movie is in Swedish and there will be English subtitles!<\/p>\n

Event tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.\u00a0Ticket price includes one\u00a0semlor with additional\u00a0semlors available for purchase at $6 each.<\/p>\n

The museum is also presenting an exhibit \u201cArt for All: The Swedish Experience in Mid-America,\u201d which will run through February 19.<\/p>\n

These young artists immigrated to America to forge new career paths.\u00a0\u201cArt for all\u201d became a catchphrase in Kansas by the 1930s, stemming from efforts of local artists to offer affordable paintings and prints so that every citizen could have original art in their own homes for a richly cultured way of life.<\/p>\n

\u201cArt for All: The Swedish Experience in Mid-America\u201d\u00a0was conceived and developed by the Birger Sandz\u00e9n Memorial Gallery and the Hillstrom Museum of Art.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here\u201d was scheduled to run until January 31 at a location in Fashion District Philadelphia (901 Market Street, Philadelphia, banksyexpo.com\/philadelphia\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the exhibition\u2019s stay in Philadelphia has now been extended until April 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here\u201d features the work of elusive, anonymous street artist Banksy. It is an immersive, multisensory\u00a0exhibit\u00a0featuring original works, projections, virtual reality and more to plunge you into Banksy\u2019s world.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here,\u201d the \u201cunauthorized exhibition\u201d features a plethora of original works and installations, as well as interactivity, in galleries that pay homage to the artist\u2019s themes, works, and sense of chaos, satire and controversy.<\/p>\n

Banksy, the British artist whose identity is still unknown, is considered one of the main contemporary street art icons. In Philadelphia, an \u201cunauthorized\u201d Banksy\u2019s exhibition lets visitors\u00a0dive into the controversial artistic universe\u00a0of the most influential creator of present time.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will\u00a0include over 80 original works<\/strong>, sculptures, installations, videos and photos including the now classics of the artist (presumed to be British). These pieces come from private collections and – with the collaboration of Lilley Fine Art \/ Contemporary Art Gallery –\u00a0will be exhibited in Philadelphia<\/strong>\u00a0for the first time.<\/p>\n

Banksy\u00a0is a\u00a0pseudonymous\u00a0England based street artist, political activist and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation.\u00a0Active since the 1990s, his satirical\u00a0street art\u00a0and subversive\u00a0epigrams\u00a0combine\u00a0dark humor\u00a0with\u00a0graffiti\u00a0executed in a distinctive\u00a0stenciling\u00a0technique. His works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls and bridges throughout the world.<\/p>\n

Banksy\u2019s work grew out of the\u00a0Bristol underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Much of his work can be classified as\u00a0temporary art.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanksy Was Here\u201d is running now through April 17 in Fashion District Philadelphia.\u00a0Timed tickets are $37.90 for adults (ages 13 and up), $28.90 for seniors, students and military and $22.90 for kids (ages 4-12).<\/p>\n

There is also another popular destination in the Fashion District.<\/p>\n

Wonderspaces\u00a0at the Fashion District (27 North 11th Street, Philadelphia,\u00a0philadelphia.wonderspaces.com<\/a>) is an experiential, interactive arts venue.<\/p>\n

Building on the success of annual pop-up shows in San Diego, and its first permanent location in Scottsdale, Arizona,\u00a0Wonderspaces\u00a0opened a 24,000 square foot gallery space in Philly a year ago.<\/p>\n

Wonderspaces\u00a0features 14 art installations that all play with the idea of perspective.\u00a0 The artwork ranges from award-winning virtual reality short film about a dinner party-turned-alien abduction, to a room where visitors digitally paint the walls with the movement of their bodies.<\/p>\n

New artworks rotate in every few months, creating an ever-evolving, year-round show.<\/p>\n

Tickets are for entry at a specific date and time. Visitors are welcome to stay as long as they please during operating hours.\u00a0The average time spent experiencing the show is 90 minutes.<\/p>\n

A few installations contain flashing lights, images, and patterns that may trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. All visitors must sign a waiver prior to being admitted into the space. Adult supervision is required for visitors under 16.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking for a fun family activity \u2013 an indoor activity unaffected by the weather — Linvilla Orchards (137 West Knowlton Road, Media, 610-876-7116, www.linvilla.com<\/a>) has something just for you — the\u00a0miniature golf course \u201cFore! the Planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Linvilla Orchard\u2019s\u00a0\u201cFore! The Planet\u201d\u00a0is a highly interactive and playful museum exhibit created by the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. This exhibition pairs important environmental issues with the fun of miniature golf.<\/p>\n

It features nine unique educational holes explore butterfly metamorphosis, a tropical rain forest, evolution, dinosaur extinction, food chains, and more. It\u2019s perfect for kids of all ages. The entire family will enjoy playing miniature golf while learning about our environment \u2013 every step of the way.<\/p>\n

The mini-course is open daily from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. through March 26. Tickets are $5.<\/p>\n
